There has been much curiosity and interest surrounding celebrity transformations, and Aishwarya Mohanraj’s recent weight loss journey has not been an exception to this phenomenon, especially since she shed 20 kgs of weight within just six months of her journey, going on to explain that even though her way may have appeared to be ‘magic,’ there was science attached to it.
Aishwarya has been very candid about her transformation, at times making deliberate use of her signature humour to talk about the topic. An obvious case was when she addressed the Ozempic rumours associated with the medication, thereby explaining that, in this case, the medication was not Ozempic but rather Mounjaro.
She stated in her recent YouTube video, "medicine was not about the lazy way out, it was about the way it helped her manage her appetite and stick to a disciplined routine." For her, the transformation wasn't just about the number on the scale; it was about regaining her vitality, feeling confident in her own skin, and being honest about the medical aid she received.
She was diagnosed with PCOS and hypothyroidism. She explained that it is extremely tough for patients with PCOS and hypothyroidism to lose weight. The core issue in PCOS is insulin resistance, which makes it very difficult to lose fat. She was started on OCPs and thyroid medication, and later on metformin. She tried losing weight naturally from 2022 to 2025, going to the gym, eating protein and fibre, and all that. But it did not have much effect. During this time, she was also diagnosed with plantar fasciitis.
After that She couldn’t walk properly due to severe pain. So, she decided to take Mounjaro shots costing 4,000 bucks per shot, every week for six months.
Mounjaro is the brand name for the generic drug tirzepatide, which is FDA-approved for treating type 2 diabetes. As a consequence of its strong effect on body weight, the drug is typically prescribed for weight loss, though under the brand name Zepbound for the treatment of chronic weight loss.
Unlike Ozempic, which replicates just one hormone, GLP-1, Mounjaro is a dual-agonist that replicates the actions of two different hormones.
GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1): Controls hunger.
GIP (Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide): Enhances the way the body metabolises sugar and fats.

Mounjaro encourages weight reduction through a multi-faceted action mechanism in the body, which makes it easier for a person to maintain a calorie-deficient diet:
The drug affects these receptors in the brain and greatly reduces the presence of food noise.
It slows the rate at which the food is emptied from the stomach; food stays there longer. As a result, you feel full sooner.
It assists the pancreas to secrete the appropriate amount of insulin while at the same time ensuring that the liver is not producing excess sugars.
