
Winter alters our bodily processes. Digestion takes time, hunger increases, and our body also requires warmth and nourishment. Vegetables should always be preferred in all seasons. However, not all vegetables can be preferred in the same manner in the winters. Some of them can even worsen the issues of bloating, cold, stiffness in joints, or poor digestion while consumed in winters.
Eating foods in season and with a warming quality can ensure that the digestive system and the immune system stay healthy during the colder season.

Carrots and beetroot are also excellent substitutes. These vegetables have high antioxidant properties and help boost the immune system. In addition, they can be eaten boiled or pan-seared.

You could attempt cooked cabbage or French beans. These vegetables contain fibers as well as nutrients but are relatively easy to digest if cleaned properly.

Although nutritious, spinach can increase mucus production in winter and may aggravate cold-related symptoms if eaten frequently.
Fenugreek leaves (methi) or mustard greens (sarson) are better winter greens. They generate warmth in the body and support immunity.

Cauliflower is notorious for producing gas and increasing bloating, particularly during winter months, due to further slowed digestion.
Vegetables, such as broccoli or green peas, would be better. These have nutritional values and can be digested easily when cooked with light masalas.

Raw onions possess very strong pungent properties; hence, eating onions during winter may cause irritation in the throat as well as in the stomach.
Use cooked onions or leeks. Cooking reduces their harshness while retaining flavour and health benefits.

Limiting cooling, gas-forming vegetables and replacing them with seasonal, warming alternatives can improve digestion, boost immunity, and keep your body balanced during colder months.
