Rujuta Diwekar Suggests Food To Brave Pollution

With accelerating pollution in today's world, we are in desperate need of ways to avoid it. Celebrity Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, who also helps actress Kareena Kapoor Khan in staying fit, has shared some food options which will help us battle pollution/smog.

Saunth (Dry Ginger), Gur (Jaggery) And Ghee Bite Size Laddoo

  • Take equal amounts of dry ginger, jaggery and ghee, nix it well and roll it into small balls.
  • Start and end your body with one.
  • Also helpful to have one after you have returned home after spending a long time outdoors.

Why?

  • It helps prevent inflammation and flu.
  • It keeps sinuses at bay
  • It also smoothens digestion

Sugarcane

  • Either chew on it and spit the fibre out or drink it like fresh juice. 
  • Have it during a mid meal or eat before noon.

Why?

  • It cleanses and helps detoxify the liver.
  • It is full of micronutrients which boosts the immune system.
  • It helps beat lethargy and low moods due to smog.

 

Milk, Kesar (Saffron), haldi (Turmeric) and Soaked Sabja (chia seeds)

  • Have it like a nightcap.
  • Heat milk and add kesar and haldi while still on the boil.
  • Add 1 tsp of soaked sabja or tulsi seeds after you pour it in a cup.
  • You can also add powdered jaggery to taste.

  • The volatile oils from kesar prevent skin and hair damage.
  • Sabja or tulsi seeds for beating infections, allergies and boating.

Other Tips

  • Don't give up on exercise, just shift it to indoors
  • Stay well hydrated.
  • Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and carotene supplements are helpful in these situations.
