Recently, celebrity nutritionist, Rujuta Diwekar took to her Instagram handle and shared more about the magic of sweet potatoes. On her post, Rujuta Diwekar shared that Anna is the sarvottam aushadha or the best medicine as per scriptures. She further shared that especially foods which are grown in soil, fresh in the season. Also known as ratala, ratalu, shakarkandi, sweet potatoes have multiple health benefits.
Celebrity Nutritionist Shares Benefits Of Sweet Potatoes
On her post, the nutritionist shared - " - The fibrous vegetable is safe for everyone to eat, the ones battling obesity, PCOD, Diabetes especially. - Makes for a great snack and allows for quick recovery from training. - The Vit A will fight all infections, the anthocynins will keep your skin supple, the minerals & Vit B profile will keep the bloating, acidity and constipation away. - Basically if you have drunk too much, slept too little and partied too hard, this is what you should be eating."
She shared a picture of her plate with Ratalyacha kees, a Marathi prep made out of sweet potato. She shared that the recipe included ingredients like green chilli, ghee, curry patta, jada namak and peanut powder.

An easy and light way of munching on sweet potato is by turning it into crispy chips.
Ingredients Required
- Sweet Potato
- Olive Oil
- Salt As Per Taste
Directions
- Wash sweet potato and peel.
- Using a slicer, slice into thin rounds.
- On a baking tray, layer sweet potato rounds.
- Drizzle some olive oil over the rounds.
- Sprinkle salt as per taste.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes in a pre-heated oven.
- Take off the oven and let the chips cool a little.
- Store in an air tight container. Enjoy!
Sweet Potato Cutlets
Another interesting snack are these sweet potato cutlets which are just perfect for your winter evenings.
Ingredients Required
- 4 Boiled Sweet Potatoes
- Salt As Per Taste
- 1/2 Tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1/2 Cup Besan Or Gram Flour
- Oil As Required
- 2 Chopped Onions
- Chopped Coriander Leaves
Directions
- In a bowl, add boiled sweet potatoes, gram flour, chopped onions, coriander leaves and salt. Mash all the ingredients together.
- Add red chilli powder and mash again to make a soft dough.
- Take some portion of the dough and make small round patties.
- On a non-stick pan, add some oil and place the patties. Cook on both sides till golden brown. Serve with chutney.
Sweet Potato Sandwich

Ingredients Required
- Bread Slices
- 1 Sweet Potato
- 1 Chopped Onion
- Salt As Per Taste
- Oil As Required
- 1/2 Tsp Minced Ginger
- 1/2 Tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1/4 Tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1/2 Tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 Tsp Garam Masala Powder
- Chopped Coriander Leaves
Directions
- Boil sweet potato and remove its skin once cool.
- In a pan, add some oil, ginger.
- Add chopped onions and all the spices.
- Sprinkle salt as per taste.
- Mash sweet potato and add to the pan.
- Combine all the ingredients well.
- Cook for a few minutes.
- Take off flame.
- Layer sweet potato filling in the bread slice.
- Cook in a sandwich maker or tawa.
- Serve with tomato ketchup.
