Kids are mostly finicky eaters and they love sugar. But that doesn’t mean that you end up giving in to their demands by packing junk food for lunch. Giving too much sugar and processed butter is not a good idea too. So if they throw tantrums about eating roti sabji or dal chawal, go simple. Rujuta Diwekar advises a simple meal of rotis smeared with ghee and served with chunks of gud to keep their tummy happy. This is especially good for cough, congestion and low immunity, she says.

Dal chawal can be a comfort food at times but boring otherwise for a kid. Kids also like having simple stuff that does not require a lot of mixing and pampers their taste buds. Rice with Tadka or Dahi Rice or Lemon Rice are some of the good options for kids in different seasons. This dish is a complete meal which is very filling and has a perfect mix of pre and pro-biotics. Tadka chawal can be made in a number of ways and you can also spice up leftover rice to be given for lunch the next day with this. A few basic ingredients are all you need to make tempered rice with a choice of veggies. Lemon rice is a tangy dish that will be easily gobbled up by kids while dahi rice is an excellent option in the summer season as it keeps the body cool.
