Today, we are living in fast-paced times, we all look for quick fixes and fast results for just everything. Be honest, have you ever wondered if getting such short-lived results is profitable for us in any way? Especially in terms of health.
We all want to lose weight, look a certain way, and to achieve the same, we take up anything and everything, right from fad diets to cardio training.
The truth is that health isn't built in a day, a week, or a month. It takes a good amount of time to make lifestyle changes, follow healthy habits religiously among other factors. We spoke to, Nutritionist, Certified Diabetes Educator Madhavi Karmokar Sharma, Founder, Informed Health, and asked her to share what are the key factors behind building a healthy lifestyle. She said, " A healthy lifestyle has 4 main pillars- Diet, Exercise, Activity and Sleep. Regular investment in all these four spheres will not only help us achieve the body of our dreams but also maintain it."
The expert shared, "Long-term health cannot be built through short-term diets. Just as a high-rise building requires a strong and deep foundation, lifelong health requires a sustainable dietary approach. Diet trends come and go leaving you drained of vital nutrients, energy, and even simple joys of life. They encourage curfew on nutrients like carbohydrates, label traditional sweets as ‘calorie dense’, play mental games in the name of ‘will power’ and make you feel like a loser if you fail to follow them."
She further shared that short-term diet trends are restrictive in nature. Also, when one follows a short-term diet plan, their body undergoes a lot of changes. All the organs and hormones have to eventually bear the consequences of the short-term diet plans. When the diet plan ends, the organs, hormones go through realignment again. This leads to psychological stress and leads to skin damage, hair loss among other issues.
The expert shared that the solution is to follow a sustainable diet.
