Who Is Mikayla Raine? About The YouTuber And Founder Of ‘Save A Fox’ Who Died By Suicide

Mikayla Raines, a popular YouTuber and the founder of SaveAFox Rescue, has died by suicide at the age of 30. Her husband, Ethan Frankamp (also known as Ethan Raines), confirmed the heartbreaking news in an emotional video shared on her YouTube channel. Read on to learn more about the incident. 

Who Is Mikayla Raines? YouTuber Dies By Suicide

Mikayla was best known for her work in rescuing domesticated foxes from fur farms and giving them safe, loving homes. Her non-profit, SaveAFox Rescue, was launched in 2017 in Minnesota and quickly gained a large following. She had over 2.4 million subscribers on YouTube and hundreds of thousands more on other social media platforms, where she posted videos of her rescue work and the animals she cared for.

Her fox Finnegan became especially popular among fans for his joyful behaviour and loving interactions with Mikayla, making him a fan favourite and a viral sensation.

In the video statement, Mikayla’s husband shared that she had struggled with mental health issues for years and was particularly affected by online criticism and cyberbullying. “She couldn’t bear what she was feeling any longer, and she ended her life,” he said. 

He added that Mikayla was not only a passionate animal rights activist but also a devoted wife and a caring mother. She leaves behind a young daughter, Freya, who was frequently featured in her social media content. Her husband described Mikayla as a deeply empathetic person who was also on the autism spectrum. He explained how her sensitivity gave her unmatched compassion for animals, but it also made her more vulnerable to online negativity and harsh words from people she knew.

Husband Gets Accused Online

Following her death, some online users have started pointing fingers at her husband, accusing him of not doing enough to protect her or even contributing to her struggles. In his video, Ethan openly addressed these accusations and denied any wrongdoing, instead focusing on honouring Mikayla’s legacy and encouraging kindness and mental health awareness.
