The Mahadev App Fraud case has put a number of Bollywood celebrities under the microscope. Reportedly, the Brahmāstra actor Ranbir Kapoor has been summoned on October 6 for investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as a part of the extensive Online Betting scandal matter.

Comedian Kapil Sharma, actress Hina Khan and Huma Quereshi are summoned by ED amidst the Mahadev app money laundering case. They will be questioned on different dates at the Raipur office of the agency. These three actors are not accused but are understood to have been promoting the app lately.

What Is Mahadev App Case?

The accusation is that the founders, Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, were working a fraud, targeting vulnerable individuals through a network of illegal betting websites. The Mahadev Online Book Betting App provides a platform for illegal betting websites (What Is Tokenisation?).

The network was used for money laundering and the ED had started deep research of the money laundering networks linked with the Mahadev App in cities like Kolkata, Bhopal, Mumbai etc. Massive proceeds of crime worth Rs 417 Crore have been seized and incriminating evidence has been procured according to the reports.

Connection Between Chandrakar’s Wedding And Mahadev App Case

Chandrakar got married in February in UAE and the wedding cost fell somewhere around ₹200 Crores. Reports say that the recent ED raids indicate that the cost of the wedding was taken out of the proceeds of crime (AI-Driven WhatsApp Video Calls Fraud).

Similar Operation In Pakistan?

Sources have shared the involvement of some Pakistani individuals in the operation. Allegedly, the founders Chandrakar and Uppal had plans to carry out a similar operation in Pakistan, too.

Chandrakar and Uppal On Target

According to the reports, Chandrakar and Uppal are the targets of this investigation and a Lookout Circular (LOC) have been issued by the ED and Chhattisgarh Police.

Why Are Celebrities Summoned?

Many of the celebrities had endorsed the app and Ranbir Kapoor is one of them. The ED, reportedly, wants to take the actor’s statement and record him as a witness in the case. Hence, Kapoor is asked to show up on October 6 in relation to the case.

Similarly, Tiger Shroff, Sunny Leone, Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and other celebs are now under the scanner of ED and they may get summoned soon, according to the reports.
