American supermodel Gigi Hadid has made it to headlines of every media outlet in the past 24 hours for being arrested at the Owen Roberts International Airport in Grand Cayman, a British Overseas Territory. On July 10, 2023, the model was found in possession of marijuana (weed or ganja) while she was travelling with her friend Leah McCarthy.
However, it is to be noted that when Border Control agents were scanning their luggage, they found small amounts of 'pot', one of the many colloquial words used for marijuana or cannabis. According to reports, the supermodel and her friend were arrested "on suspicion of importation of ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja". They were released on bail.
Gigi Hadid Purchased Weed Legally
On July 12, the accused were fined $1,000 each, but no conviction was recorded. A spokesperson of Hadid has informed the media that the supermodel was travelling with marijuana, which she legally purchased from New York City from a medically licensed place. The person also added that the weed was made legal to use for medical purposes in Grand Cayman in 2017.
The American supermodel was recently in India attending the launch of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai. She made heads turn around in a golden saree from the shelves of Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla.

There were four other passengers with him. If he was found alone in possession of these drugs, he might have faced felony charges. His famous songs include ‘To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before’ and ‘Always On My Mind’.
