Ameesha Patel's Educational Qualification, A Factor That Labelled Her Too Educated For Doing Movies

Ameesha Patel was counted among one of the most educated stars in showbiz back when she first entered movies. After completing her schooling in Mumbai, Patel went to the United States for her graduation. Later, she came to India and signed up for theatre.

Ameesha Patel and Sunny Deol are all set to reunite on the silver screen after 22 long years with Gadar 2. Patel will be reprising her role as Sakeena in the sequel of the 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Currently, the actor is promoting Gadar 2 which is all set to release on August 11.

Ahead of the release, Ameesha Patel is making headlines for her education. In an interview with an entertainment portal, Patel shared how she was questioned by journalists if she felt out of place at the beginning of her career because of her educational background. She said, "Why can't an educated person be involved in the performing arts? Because it was art for me."

Patel further shared that she has rebelled against almost everything in her life. She said, "The family didn't want me to go to America to study. They wanted me to go to England because that's where the family lived. And that's where they thought I'd be under watchful eyes. So I said, No, I want to go to America, I want to be my own person."

She added that back in the day, people used to count her amongst the most educated actors in the industry along with Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

She said, "Even back in the day people spoke about how Ameesha had such high qualifications. I remember Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and I were counted as among those who had solid academic backgrounds. Both SRK and I are honours students. The conversation around this would happen in film magazines. Now it is there on social media."

Ameesha Patel went on to share how she was labelled a snob by many in the industry when she first made it to Bollywood. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, she shared how she entered the industry with star kids like Kareena Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Esha Deol, and Tushar Kapoor among others. She was an outsider and was looked upon as a snob because she was an educated outsider who read books and did not gossip on sets.

Born and brought up in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Ameesha Patel studied at Cathedral and John Connon School. After completing her schooling, Patel went to Tufts University in Boston, United States where she studied bio-genetic engineering. After studying engineering for two years, Patel switched to economics. She started working as an economic analyst at Khandwala Securities Limited post her graduation. She got an offer from Morgan Stanley, an American multinational investment bank and financial services company but she turned it down.

Ameesha Patel flew back to India and got into acting, she joined Satyadev Dubey's theatre group. She acted in many plays including an Urdu language play Neelam in the year 1999. At the same time, she got into modelling and signed many endorsements. In the year 2000, she made her Bollywood debut opposite Hrithik Roshan with Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai (2000).
