‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ the epic 2001 Bollywood movie which starred Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in titular roles and was a film that was took us through the story of a simpleton Indian truck driver ‘Tara Singh’ and ‘Sakeena’ who is a prim and proper convent educated the daughter of Pakistan’s elite politician ‘Ashraf Ali’ played by the late Amrish Puri. Set against the backdrop of the partition era the movie’s screenplay takes us through the encounter and romance of the leading couple. ‘Tara Singh’ marries ‘Sakeena’ amidst the ravages of the bloody India-Pakistan partition in 1947. But their happiness is short-lived as Sakeena’s father forces her to stay in Pakistan and separates her from her marital family and child. The movie is a saga of how ‘Tara Singh’ crosses the border to reclaim his wife and bring home the mother of his child against all odds.

Business Records And Box Office Numbers Of ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’
The 2001 romantic drama movie starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Amrish Puri, Lilite Dubey among others sold over five crore tickets in its full run. This made the movie the first Bollywood and Hindi language film in the millennium to sell that number of tickets. It came up as the highest grossing Indian movie at the Indian box office as well as box offices worldwide grossing a whopping ₹111.73 crores at the worldwide box office. Out of which in India, it collected ₹106.78 crores and overseas, it collected ₹4.95 crores making it the first ever hundred crore club movie in India.
