Radhika Apte Talks About Her ‘Shocking’ Pregnancy

Radhika Apte and Benedict Taylor recently welcomed their first child. A few days ago, the actress shared a heartfelt picture of herself breastfeeding her one-week-old baby. Now, she has opened up about her pregnancy, revealing that it came as a shock to her.

In an exclusive interview with Vogue, Radhika shared intimate photos from her maternity shoot and admitted that she struggled to embrace her changing appearance during pregnancy. Reflecting on the moment she found out she was expecting, Radhika said in a interview with Vogue, “I knew from the moment I conceived, and I started telling people the very next day. And it still came as a shock," said the Sacred Games actress.

How To Differentiate Between Regular Health Issues And Early Pregnancy Symptoms

Early pregnancy symptoms can often be mistaken for common health issues like stress or changes in diet. Dr Shroff explained, "Key signs of pregnancy include missed periods, nausea, breast tenderness, and fatigue, symptoms not typically linked to stress or dietary changes. Additionally, increased sensitivity to smells or food aversions can also be indicators of pregnancy. While stress or a poor diet can lead to fatigue or irregular periods, they do not show the specific markers associated with pregnancy."

In addition to symptoms like increased sensitivity to smells or food aversions, another early indicator of pregnancy is the frequent need to urinate. A research paper from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development explains that this is common throughout pregnancy. During the first few weeks, the body produces a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin, which increases blood flow to the pelvic region, leading to the need to empty the bladder more often.

Surprising Pregnancy Symptoms That Can Catch Women Off Guard In The First Few Weeks

Dr Shroff shared that there are several other pregnancy symptoms women might experience that could signal they are expecting. These early signs include a heightened sense of smell, which may lead to aversions to familiar odours or a metallic taste in the mouth. Some women may also notice light spotting, often mistaken for a period. Mood swings or unexplained emotional changes are common as well. Additionally, other unusual signs could include bloating, nasal congestion, or vivid dreams that are easily remembered.

Early pregnancy symptoms such as nausea and mood swings need to be managed practically. For nausea, it's recommended to have frequent, small meals, stay hydrated, and avoid strongly scented or greasy foods. To cope with mood swings, prioritising rest, light exercises like walking, and practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or meditation can help.
