With the rise in the number of movies making it to streaming platforms, it can get a tad bit difficult to pick the right content. If you have been hunting for a meaningful and fun short film to watch online, you might want to add Kofuku starring Adah Sharma and Jatin Sarna to your watchlist. Helmed by Sumit Suresh Kumar, Kofuku revolves around the life of Sadaf and Alok, two strangers who meet at a cafe in Mussoorie and make the two have a changed perspective on their lives.
Ahead of Kofuku's release on Jio Cinema, we had a quick chat with the star cast, Adah Sharma and Jatin Sarna. Excerpts:
Picking Kofuku For The Narrative
We asked Adah Sharma what made her pick a script like Kofuku. She said, "It's a really nice and fresh concept, it is a light-hearted film based on happiness and it is about how all of us have our eyes open but sometimes we might not see things, sometimes people who can't see also might be able to see more than they can."
"I pick films based on instinct. The film is about happiness. I had just done another short film, it's called 'Chuha Billi' and that was like a dark short film, so I thought something extremely opposite would be really nice."
"I don't identify with her character at all and I actually like picking characters I don't identify with, that's a lot of fun, it's so much nicer playing someone else, I have always enjoyed that,” she added.
The Vishal Bhardwaj Connect
Some behind-the-scenes pictures from the short film are up on the internet and we see glimpses of renowned filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj. We were curious to know how he ended up being a part of Kofuku. Lead actor Jatin Sarna narrated a sweet story behind it. He said, "We shot this film in the year 2020, during the COVID-19 wave. We were setting up our things and had no idea that Vishal sir lives in Mussoorie. We were shooting around the famous chaar-dukaan in a coffee shop. A truck was unloading all our stuff, lights, cameras, and other things. That time, Vishal ji was going for his morning walk and he saw that something was happening and he asked someone if there was a shooting going on. Somebody told him that a short film was being shot there."
"In the evening, we were back at the cafe to shoot, we were about to start, and here entered the big one, Vishal Bhardwaj sir came in and he was very excited, I was shocked and it was a surprise for me from the team. He was so kind, he met me, he met Adah, and showered us with praises," he added.

Why Watch Kofuku?
Lastly, we asked the star cast, Adah Sharma and Jatin Sarna to share a few reasons why we should add it to our watchlist. Jatin Sarna who plays the lead Alok in the short film said, "The crux of the story is what we all have, we take it very lightly, we take it for granted and don't show much care for it, we aren't thankful for it. We keep running towards things we don't have and don't cherish the things we have. So, the story revolves around these two people, one who is blind and the other one who ignores what she sees."

Kofuku’s theme feels fairy-like, it has been shot at some really beautiful locations and as the star cast shared, it is a short and sweet film that will bring a big smile to your face. Kofuku is slated to release on Jio Cinema on the 9th of October, 2023, mark your calendars!
