Women face violence in almost all spheres of life, be it in the office, their own home or their in-law's home after marriage. Although it continues everywhere, it varies in type and intensity between cultures and nations. With deeply ingrained ideas of patriarchy that consider women as inferior to males, Indian women are constantly victims of everything from rape and domestic violence to child marriage, dowry, being forced to participate in superstitious rituals, and human trafficking and many more. Here are some of the bizarre reasons women were harassed, in the most shocking ways:

1. In-Laws Harass Woman And Took Her Menstrual Blood For Aghori Pooja

Menstrual Blood

In March 2023, a woman filed a complaint in which she shared that her husband and in-laws allegedly harassed her and took her menstrual blood for the ‘Aghori Pooja’ ritual. The victim said in her complaint that she was starved for three days during her monthly cycle and that someone purchased her menstrual blood for ₹50,000 in order to use it for black magic. The woman filed a report after she returned to her parent's home in Pune following the incident, which she claims occurred at her in-laws' house in the Beed district.

In August 2022, a woman from Pune lodged a complaint, after her husband and in-laws forced her to take a shower in public as recommended by an occultist. Also, the woman mentioned that since she married in 2013 at the age of 21, her in-laws had started harassing her.

The woman told the police that her in-laws came in contact with the occultist, Moulana Baba Jamadar, from Kolhapur to conduct some rituals on her to get profit in business. In order for the woman to "carry a male child", Jamadar suggested that her husband and her in-laws make her take a public bath under a waterfall. After the complaint, four people including the husband, in-laws, and the occultist were arrested.
