One of the few reasons why the country continues to be obsessed with the Ambani family is its active involvement in humanitarian works and philanthropic initiatives. Otherwise, the Ambanis are mostly known for their lavish lifestyle and extravagant events. Amongst the family's many charitable initiatives is Anant Ambani's passion project, Vantara.

Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation announced the launch of Vantara recently. Vantara which translates to the star of the forest is a rescue, care, treatment, and rehabilitation programme for injured, abused, and threatened animals in India and abroad.

Anant Ambani during Vantara's press announcement today shared that it is a leading-edge conservation programme that is spread over 3000 acres within the green belt of Jamnagar, Gujarat. The shelter is built in Reliance's Refinery Complex. In the last few years, Vantara has rescued more than 200 elephants and many other animals including birds and reptiles. Vantara has also specifically taken initiatives for rhino, leopard, and crocodile rehabilitation.

Vantara's Mantra, Jeev Sewa

During the conference, Anant Ambani shared that Vantara follows the age-old ethical values of compassion with modern science and technology. Animal care or jeev sewa is the programme's motto. Ambani took inspiration from her mother Nita Ambani as he took up this project. The youngest member of the Ambani clan sees animal care as serving the almighty as this is something the Hindu religion believes.

He added that Vantara is a 'sewalaya' built to serve animals from all parts of the country. To date, more than 200 elephants from across the country have been brought and saved. About 600-acre area is dedicated to elephants.
