The battle for the top smartphone is officially on. Samsung just rolled out the Galaxy S26, packing its brand-new 2nm Exynos chip and a sleek, premium design. Apple countered by releasing the iPhone 17 back in September 2025, which boasts the A19 chip and even gives the base model ProMotion. Naturally, these two flagship devices are sparking a lot of debate.

Samsung built the Galaxy S26 around its own Exynos 2600, a 2nm chipset designed for maximum speed. It offers a top configuration of 12 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage. Samsung claims a redesigned vapour chamber dissipates 29% more heat than other chips, preventing your device from getting hot during intense gaming or tasks. For power, the phone runs on a 4300 mAh battery, which you can quickly recharge with its 25W wired charger or a wireless one.
Apple loaded the iPhone 17 with the A19 chip and a 16-core Neural Engine, which handles powerful AI features. Apple says its CPU is 40% faster than the one in the previous iPhone. While Apple hasn't revealed the exact battery capacity, they guarantee the phone lasts 8 hours longer than its predecessors, and you can charge it to 50% in just a few minutes. Unlike the Galaxy S26, Apple focuses on optimising the on-device software and efficiency for longer life instead of listing the exact battery specs like Android rivals do.
Both phones feature 6.3-inch displays, but with different tech. The Samsung Galaxy S26 uses a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, a Full HD+ display, and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Corning's Gorilla Armour 2 protects the display, and its signature minimalist, flat design is immediately recognisable. The Samsung Galaxy S26 measures 149.6mm tall, 71.7mm wide, and 7.2mm thick. It's also light, weighing only 167 grams.
The Apple iPhone 17, on the other hand, sports a Super Retina XDR OLED display, supported by 120 Hz ProMotion, and hits up to 3000 nits peak brightness, which you'll appreciate in bright outdoor settings. Ceramic Shield 2 protects it, and the device carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Since both devices now include 120 Hz refresh rates, they really give each other stiff competition.
The Galaxy S26 features a triple camera system: a 50 MP main sensor (with OIS), a 10 MP telephoto lens that allows 3x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultra-wide lens. Samsung's flagship also records 8K video at 24 and 30 frames per second, a feature few other smartphones offer.
The iPhone 17's dual-camera setup includes a 48 MP main camera that uses sensor-shift OIS and another 48 MP ultra-wide lens that can also take macro shots. Samsung holds an edge with its wider range of camera settings, but Apple remains a strong competitor with its impressive computational photography.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 starts at Rs. 87,999, and the 512GB version costs up to Rs. 1,07,999.
The iPhone 17, however, begins at Rs. 82,900 for the 256GB model and goes up to Rs. 1,02,900 for the 512GB version. You can buy the iPhone 17 in Lavender, Mist Blue, Sage, White, and Black.
If you want a superior camera setup that offers more photography options (including zoom), prefer Samsung's vibrant Android OS, and need clear battery specifications, you should consider buying the Samsung Galaxy S26.
However, if you value longer software support from the brand, smooth performance when working within the Apple ecosystem, and a starting price of Rs. 82,900, the iPhone 17 makes a great investment. Ultimately, if you already love Android, the Galaxy S26 will work perfectly for you, and if you prefer the iPhone and how Apple optimises its software, you should invest in the iPhone 17 for the long haul.
