Tamil actor Suriya took home the Best Actor Award while sharing it with Ajay Devgn for the 2020 Tamil film Soorarai Pottru and Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero. While the Best Film Award went to Soorarai Pottru directed by Sudha Kongara and the Best Actress Award went to Aparna Balamurali, the lead of the same film.
South India Regional Cinema Dominated National Awards 2022
The 68th National Film Awards, which took place live on Friday, was dominated by the Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil film industries with over 10 National Awards in their bag. Besides the best film, actors and actresses, the Best Supporting Actress goes to Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli for the 2018 Tamil film Sivaranjaniyum Innum Sila Pengallum, and the Best Supporting Actor goes to Biju Menon for the 2020 Malayalam film AK Ayyappanum Koshiyum. Both in the Feature films category.

Thaman S, the Tamil music director, won the Best Music Direction for songs for the 2020 Telugu action drama film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, while G V Prakash won the Best Music Direction for Background Music for Soorarai Pottru again. The Best Female Playback Singer Award went to Nanchamma for AK Ayyappanum Koshiyum and Rahul Deshpande Best Male Playback Singer for the same. Manoj Muntashir won the Best Lyrics Award for the Hindi film Saina.

The Best Director Award went to Sachidanandan KR for AK Ayyappanum Koshiyum. Under the category of non-feature film, the Best Cinematographer Award went to Nikhil S Praveen for the Malayalam film Shabdikkunna Kalappa and the Best direction went to RV Ramani for the Oh That’s Bhanu (English, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi). Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero grabbed the award for the best Popular Film for providing wholesome entertainment.
Jury At The National Awards 2022
Thanking the jury members for “diligently” going through the entries and selecting the best for the awards, the Broadcasting Ministry Anurag Thakur congratulated the award winners. He also mentioned that 2020 was a difficult year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and yet the nominations consisted of some great work.

The awards were announced by Chitrartha Singh, Chairperson of the Non-Feature Jury, Anant Vijay, Chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury, Dharam Gulati, member of Feature Film Jury.

The Most Film Friendly State Award went to Madhya Pradesh and the Best Book on Cinema Award Award has been awarded to ‘The Longest Kiss’ by Kishwar Desai.
