Recently, Forbes released its November issue featuring three Indian businesswomen among 20 Asian Entrepreneurs, whose strategies helped them grow their businesses in the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The list mentions businesswomen from India, Thailand, South Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia and Singapore. Let’s see who these three Indian women entrepreneurs are.

Soma Mondal

Soma Mondal is the Chairperson of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL). Since she has taken over the designation, the company has registered record-breaking earnings. From 2021 to March 2022, the annual revenue of the company grew by 50% to more than ₹1.03 trillion.

Over this period, the company had paid off the debt of around ₹220 billion. Mondal became the Director of the company in 2017 and launched an ₹8,000 million effort to increase the company’s production.

The businesswoman holds a degree in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Technology at Rourkela. She graduated in 1984 and has always worked in the metals industry since then.

SAIL is also among 11 state-owned companies called maharanis. These companies enjoy autonomy more than other state-owned firms.

Namita Thapar

Namita Thapar is the Executive Director of Emcure Pharma. The entrepreneur overlooks the ₹61 billion Pune-based company that was started by her father, Satish Mehta.

Thapar joined the company in 2007. It is known to be the manufacturer of drugs for diseases like cardiovascular and HIV among others. The businesswoman took over Emcure’s India operations about five years ago, and the company saw its revenue double to an amount of ₹25 billion in 2021.

Thapar also hosts a YouTube show called Unconditional Yourself With Namita Thapar. It revolves around women’s health, and celebrities often grace the hot seat to talk on topics like breastfeeding, body shaming, etc.

Thapar was the judge of season one of Shark Tank India. She will also be seen in the second season. The businesswoman holds an M.B.A degree from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Ghazal Alagh

Ghazal Alagh is the Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Honasa Consumer. It is the parent company of renowned personal care brands like Ayuga, The Derma Co., Mamaearth, etc.

Her company became a unicorn in January 2022. She has also co-founded a Gurugram-based company with her husband, Varun Alagh. The business woman's journey started when she was struggling to find chemical-free alternatives for her kid.

When she could not find brands selling natural products, she bridged the gap by starting her own brand. In March 2022, the revenue of Honasa Consumer reached ₹10 billion. The company claims to sell natural and safe products. In the 2021 fiscal year, the company profits crossed ₹250 million.
