Over the past couple of years, OTT platforms are thriving with true-crime documentaries and thriller films or series based on true-crime documentaries. The genre has grabbed audiences’ attention from all over the world with series like Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes, and The Watcher which are getting renewed for anthology series for its popularity.

Indian Predator: The Butcher of Delhi

Indian Predator is a true-crime docu-series streaming on Netflix whose first instalment, The Butcher of Delhi premiered on July 20 this year. Produced by VICE India and directed by Ayesha Sood, The Butcher of Delhi explores both- the police investigation as well as the motives of serial killer Chandrakant Jha who left three beheaded victims outside the Tihar Jail accompanied by mocking notes back in 2006 and 2007.

Indian Predator: Murder In The Courtroom

The second instalment of Indian Predators, Murder in a Courtroom, with its three episodes premiered on Netflix last weekend. The mini series is based on the true crime story of the community that was terrorized by a brutal predator and their vengeance that was unleashed which lead to his lynching in a courtroom in 2004.

House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths

Based on the case of the Burari deaths which was one of the most spine-chilling cases in the country, the Netflix Documentary series – House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths premiered on the streaming giant on October 8, 2021. The incident involved the mass suicide of a family in Delhi’s Burari area comprising 11 members. On June 30, 2018, ten members of a family were found hanging from the ceiling and the grandmother strangled to death inside their house which was ruled out as a shared delusion or psychosis by the police.

My Daughter Joined A Cult

My Daughter Joined a Cult premiered on Amazon Prime Video earlier this year. The documentary series revolves around the life of the controversial saint and self-proclaimed godman Swami Nithyananda and focuses on the individuals who were at the epicentre of the entire cult.

The Talwars: Behind Closed Doors

The Disney+ Hotstar documentary series The Talwars: Behind Closed Doors follows the infamous unsolved Noida double murder case of 13-year-old Aarushi Talwar and 45-year-old Hemraj Banjade who worked as domestic help for the Talwar family. On May 16, 2008, Aarushi’s body was discovered in her bedroom and a day later Hemraj’s partially decomposed body from the terrace. The police were criticised heavily for their failure to secure the crime scene, the case received wide spread media coverage, and was criticised by many for trial by media. The case remains unsolved till date.
