Kangana Ranaut, the Padma Shri awardee Bollywood actor who has constantly been embroiled in controversies and has multiple cases registered against her, hinted at joining politics. She wishes to contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections from her home state, Himachal Pradesh only if the Bharatiya Janata Party gives her a ticket and the people of her state give her the opportunity to serve them.

It will be a matter of pride for her, she said. The National award-winning actor was speaking at the Panchayat Aajtak Himachal Pradesh event in Shimla organised by the India Today group on Saturday, October 29, ahead of the Assembly polls in the state on November 12. The counting will be held on December 8.

"Whatever will be the situation. If the government wants my participation, then I will be very much open to all kinds of participation. It will be my honour if the people of Himachal Pradesh give me a chance to serve them. So, definitely, it will be my good luck," she said.

Ranaut also went on to laud Prime Miniter Narendra Modi and called him ‘Mahapurush’. She further said, "It is sad that both PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi are competitors. But, Modiji knows he has no opponent." Taking a jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party, the actor said, "Himachal Pradesh won't fall for false promises of the AAP. People in Himachal have their own solar power and people grow their own vegetables. Freebies won't work for AAP in Himachal.”

However, earlier this month, Ranaut mentioned that she had no intentions of foraying into politics professionally because she wanted to remain focused on her acting career.

From Farm Bills to post-election violence in West Bengal, since October 2020, the actor has been embroiled in several political controversies and has several FIRs registered against her across several states. Ranaut expressed support through social media for the three Farm Bills that were passed by the Indian parliament during the 2020 monsoon session. Farmers from all over strongly opposed the bills, especially those from Punjab’s Sikh community, who protested for more than a year on the borders of Delhi. Throughout this time, the actor insulted the protesting farmers and called them “terrorists,” “Khalistanis” and “anti-social elements” against which multiple FIRs were registered in several states.

Later in November 2021, when PM Modi announced the decision to repeal the Farm Bills, Ranaut, whose Twitter account had been suspended, took to her Instagram page and posted inflammatory posts about the Sikh community and the protesting farmers. Following which, another FIR was registered against her based on a complaint filed by the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) at Mumbai’s Khar Police Station.

Other complaints registered against Ranaut include two FIRs registered in West Bengal for her tweets in the aftermath of the Legislative Assembly elections in the state, a defamation case filed by lyricist Javed Akhtar, and a complaint registered against the actor and her sister Rangoli Chandel for posting hateful statements against the Muslim community.
