Kajol is making headlines every day because of her much-awaited film Salaam Venky. So far, the audience has loved its trailer, cast and performance of the actor. However, not many know that she refused to work in the movie.
The actor has taken challenging roles in the past, but this one was tricky even for her. Here is the reason why Kajol was apprehensive about doing the film in the first place.

In an interview, Kajol shared that she refused the film for three days. “I didn’t want to do a film in which something happens to my children. I cannot handle it, and I do not want to handle it,” she added.
Revathi was the one who convinced her to think about it, and she agreed eventually. Revathi is also the director of the film that stars Vishal Jethwa and Kajol as the mother-son duo. Rajeev Khandelwal and Aahana Kumra are also a part of it, and we will get to see Aamir Khan in a cameo role.

To convince the actor, Revathi told her, “When you are a mother or daughter, the emotions that come on screen are different because you have learned so much. And you feel for the part of your body (your child) that is living outside.”
She also added that she needed an actor who could feel what Sujata (Kajol’s character) would feel, and that is why she reached out to the actor.

Salaam Venky is based on The Last Hurrah, a Shrikant Murthy book. Revathi got her hands on the book in 2007, and she worked on different versions of it. She felt that it had a story the world needed to know. However, during that time, things didn't work out because at the time nobody was interested in making such films.
All were into doing commercial films. Therefore, Revathi gave up on the movie in 2011. Cut to today, the audience is looking for something new in the script and has many options to choose from what is available on OTT platforms.

Revathi said that in 2017 “the book came to me again thanks to Suuraj Sinngh. I was like no, not this book again.” By then, she had already spent three to four years on it and shelved the project. However, in 2018, things started to fall into place, and Sameer Arora, the screenwriter of the film, came on board and shared his take that hooked Revathi.
Aamir Khan was also sent a copy of his scene, and after reading them, he came on board. The Kajol-starrer will be released in theatres on December 9.
The trailer came out on November 14, on Children’s Day. In the past, Kajol has played a mother’s role in My Name Is Khan, in which she lost her on-screen son. We cannot wait to see how the story of Salaam Venky will unfold.
