Janhvi’s Mili Stumbles While Katrina’s Phone Bhoot Sees Growth Over Weekend

Janhvi Kapoor’s Mili, Katrina Kaif’s Phone Bhoot and Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi’s Double XL clashed at the box office with each other this weekend.

Mili, the Janhvi Kapoor starrer survival thriller, stumbled at the box office after its release on Nov 4, 2022. It didn’t even see much growth over the weekend. While the Katrina Kaif, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Ishaan Khatter starrer Phone Bhoot had a slower start but recovered over the weekend.

Though Kapoor’s performance and the film were praised by netizens following its release, Mili collected merely ₹1.50 crore nett over its first weekend, as per Box Office India. It saw nearly no traction over the weekend after starting at ₹35 lakhs on Friday, collecting ₹50 lakhs on Saturday and ₹65 lakhs on Sunday.

Produced by Boney Kapoor, Mili is the official Hindi remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Helen directed by Mathukutty Xavier, which has also been remade into Tamil, titled Anbirkinyal. Helen stars Anan Ben in the lead role along with Lal, Noble Babu Thomas, Aju Varghese, Rony David, and Binu Pappu in pivotal roles. The original Malayalam film won two National Film Awards – Best Debut Film of a Director and Best Make-up Artist (Ranjith Ambady).

In the Hindi remake, Kapoor plays Mili Naudiyal, a 24-year-old graduate in Nursing, who works a part-time job at a chicken centre in a city mall. She lives with her father, and Sunny Kaushal plays her boyfriend. Mili’s life changes within an evening as she gets stuck inside a freezer of the chicken centre and has to fight the cold to survive.

The film clashed with Kaif’s Phone Bhoot and Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi starrer Double XL.

The horror comedy film Phone Bhoot had a rough start but saw growth over the weekend. As per Box Office India, the film earned ₹1.85 crores on Friday and saw around 35% growth on Saturday. After earning ₹2.5 crores on its second day, the film earned ₹2.75 crores on Sunday taking the total to around ₹7 crores nett plus.

Phone Bhoot was one of the most-awaited horror comedy films of the year as Kaif is seen in this genre for the first time. The film revolves around a ghost who reaches out to two noobie ghostbusters for a business idea, which soon goes downhill as the eerie ghost reveals her actual plans.

However, Double XL has done the worst among the three by collecting under ₹50 lakhs over the weekend.
