Woman Alleges IndiGo Crew In-Flight Stole Child’s ₹25 Lakh Gold Chain

A case has been filed against an IndiGo flight attendant after a mother alleged that her five-year-old daughter’s gold necklace disappeared during a flight to Bengaluru. According to News18, the incident occurred on April 1, 2025, aboard IndiGo flight 6E 661 from Thiruvananthapuram to Bengaluru, where the family had a layover before continuing to Kolkata.

Priyanka, the child's mother and the wife of an ISRO scientist, was travelling with her two young daughters. During the flight, her children—aged five and two—began crying after a disagreement. To help calm them, a cabin crew member offered to take the older child for a brief walk while Priyanka tended to the younger one.

As the plane prepared to land in Bengaluru, the child was returned to her seat, at which point Priyanka noticed that her daughter's gold necklace, weighing about 20 grams, was missing. She immediately questioned the flight attendant, who denied any involvement in the disappearance.

Despite contacting the airline, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and airport authorities, Priyanka claimed she received no clear response for several hours after landing. Airport officials reportedly told her that since the incident occurred mid-flight, it was the responsibility of the airline and law enforcement to handle the matter.

According to the report, initial attempts to file a complaint were delayed. Priyanka stated that the police could not question the cabin crew member directly, as the airline claimed she had denied the allegation. Additionally, there was no CCTV footage from the cabin to verify the incident, and the airline refused to provide crew photographs, which Priyanka believed could have helped identify the staffer involved.

Supporting her allegations, Priyanka highlighted a video she had taken during the flight in which her daughter was seen eating cake and wearing the gold necklace. To push the case forward, her husband traveled from Thiruvananthapuram to Bengaluru. Due to the delays, the family was forced to stay overnight at the airport after missing their original connecting flight to Kolkata. A senior police official confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.

Indigo’s Reaction

In response to the allegations, IndiGo issued a statement saying, “We are aware of a recent incident involving a staff member on flight 6E 661 from Thiruvananthapuram to Bengaluru, regarding a concern raised by our customer. We take such matters extremely seriously and are providing full support and cooperation to the relevant authorities in carrying out the investigations.”
