After four long years, the Commonwealth Games are back and it has been quite exciting for us. All the athletes have been prepping for glorious wins at the games and now it's time to showcase their athletic talent.

This time, the games are being held in Birmingham from July 28, 2022. It has just been a few days and our athletes are already making the nation proud, and the female athletes in particular have had a huge hand in this performance.

Glorious Wins By Female Athletes At CWG

We started with a bang as our star player Mirabai Chanu won the first gold medal for the country at Commonwealth Games 2022 in the women’s 49kg weightlifting final. She is not the only one to clinch a medal. Bindyarani Devi also won a silver medal in the women’s 55kg final.

Along with the weightlifters, Nikhat Zareen also showed fabulous performance as she knocked out her opponent with clean punches to reach the quarter-finals. She dominated in the previous match and now, it will be exciting to watch her against reigning Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Troy Garton of New Zealand.

Women In India

It is refreshing to see Indian women giving their best and making the nation proud when on the other hand, the nation is still trying to hold them back in some way or the other. From the age-old patriarchal norms to multiple horrendous rape cases, women have always been pulled down but there have been multiple instances proving that women are equal to men in all fields. However, this doesn’t mean that women have been getting equal opportunities. We have come a long way but there is still a long path ahead of us and these female athletes have a huge role to play in the advancement of women in our country.

More Medal Events For Women At CWG

From the time when women struggled to reach such big platforms to now, CWG is hosting more medal events for women. This year, there are 135 medal events for women while only 133 for men. This itself is a step ahead in lifting women up by providing opportunities they deserve.

Celebrating Women

Apart from giving women opportunities, it is also important for us to celebrate them in order to motivate them to do better.

In a recent video that went viral on the internet, Mirabai Chanu’s mother along with other villagers were seen dancing after her glorious win at the Commonwealth Games. This is the kind of support women need and should get in their lives (even when they aren't winning medals!).
