It was the year 2018 when the #MeToo movement first shook India. It began with actress Tanushree Dutta accusing veteran actor Nana Patekar for sexual harassment while shooting for a film 'Horn Ok Please'. This was followed by a series of women coming forth and sharing their experiences with the world. This was the same year when Sushant Singh Rajput faced #metoo allegations due to his over friendliness with Dil Bechara co-star Sanjana Sanghi.
#MeToo Allegations On Sushant Singh Rajput
When the news of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput making his co-star Sanjana Sanghi uncomfortable first grabbed headlines, it coincided with the me-too movement.
According to a report by DNA, “Sushant was trying to be ‘extra-friendly’ towards newbie Sanjana Sanghi. On one occasion, she seemed to have got uncomfortable and apparently brought it to the notice of her parents, who reportedly told her to return to the set only if she felt she should. One hears that as of now, shooting has come to a standstill.”
Though Sanjana Sanghi never confirmed the allegations, the netizens took to social media and accused him of harassing the co-star.
Sanjana Sanghi Finally Addresses #MeToo Claims
Recently in an interview with Pinkvilla, Sanjana talked about the #Metoo allegations Sushant Singh Rajput faced while the two were shooting for the movie Dil Bechara. These allegations made people slam him all across the country.
She shared that everyone thought that it was Sushant who was troubled by such rumours but she too was troubled. The two knew the truth and what they meant to each other and didn't pay heed to the rumours.
Did the allegations change the equation between Sushant and Sanjana? Sanjana Sanghi shared, “Nothing changed between us because there was nothing. All that happened was, ‘How should we make them believe the truth?’ Imagine what a sad state of affairs it is for two people who actually adore each other to have to sit back and be like, ‘How do we prove it?’ He was like, ‘Should I put out these chats?’ I said, ‘Go for it, maybe that will help.’ So he put up the chats but still people were refusing to believe it. Then I, the girl who has supposedly accused the boy, put out a clarification. Even that didn’t work”.

Why Didn't Sanjana Sanghi Clarify The Rumours Earlier?
When Sushant Singh Rajput faced these allegations, Sanjana Sanghi didn't try to clarify them. However, Sushant shared a couple of screenshots on social media of his conversation with Sanjana and rubbished all the rumours. He wrote, “I feel sad to reveal personal information but it seems that there is no other way to state what actually happened, in the midst of this curated, well-timed, and agenda-driven smear campaign. From the first day of the shoot till the last day, this is what happened on the sets with Sanjana. Misconduct? Not at all. Agenda? You decide.”
Dil Bechara director, Mukesh Chhabra tweeted in Sushant's support back then and wrote, "I totally stand by @itsSSR - no such incident happened on the sets and let's not have a Twitter trial and make an innocent person suffer for somebody else's ulterior motives I had clarified this on twitter long back and I still maintain it.

Now that Sanjana recently spoke about it everyone wanted to know why she took so much time. She said, “They see it as time, but the truth is they don’t know our reality. If they are waiting for lies to be clarified, I don’t want to perpetuate that culture. I don’t want to be in a place where every rumour that is written about me, I have to come out with my trusted colleagues to clarify them time and again.
She added, “I shouldn’t have needed to clarify anything in the first place is the point. Because nothing happened. He was the greatest co-star I could have had and I have every ounce of love and respect for him, as he did for me. If something had actually happened, we wouldn’t have gone ahead and finished our Paris schedule, finished our film… It would have not been like this. I just would really urge people to really believe the truth. It’s sad that the truth is not fed to them, though, and it is not their fault”.
Sanjana Sanghi and Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Dil Bechara is all set to release on the OTT platform on 24th July. The movie, helmed by Mukesh Chhabra is the adaptation of the book, The Fault In Our Stars. The movie also stars Javed Jafferi and Saif Ali Khan.
