As the world is currently facing a pandemic from the coronavirus outbreak, the World Health Organisation is taking measures to spread awareness about it. Not only it is updating people about the happenings but it is also putting out effective ways of taking precautionary measures. Including maintaining hand hygiene by washing hands for around 20 seconds. Taking the help of digitalisation, WHO has launched a campaign called, #SafeHandChallenge. Celebrities from around the globe are participating and educating their fans about the proper steps to wash hands so that they could stay safe from COVID-19. These are the Indian celebrities who came forward to join the campaign.
Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone took the challenge after she was nominated by the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. She uploaded a video taking to her Twitter handle, wherein she can be seen clad in a white bathrobe and putting on a facemask. Her video shows her washing her hand nicely in backward and forward strokes.
"Thank You @DrTedros, for nominating me for the #SafeHands Challenge! #COVID19 surely is an uphill health and public safety task, but all of us are in this fight together! I further nominate @rogerfederer,@Cristiano, and @imVkohli to take up this challenge! #coronavirus #StaySafe,” she wrote alongside the video.
Anushka Sharma
Known for being supportive of most of the global welfare affairs, actor Anushka Sharma was one of the first celebrities to take up the Safe Hand Challenge. Taking responsibility as one of the most influential Indian celebrities, the actress recently demonstrated her fans on how to stay hygienic by washing hands during the outbreak. Uploading a video on her Instagram stories she illustrated the best technique to wash hands. Dressed in a grey tee and black bottoms, Anushka also urged fans to stay protected.
Sachin Tendulkar
Be it asking fans to use a helmet while driving, or promoting a great cause like the WHO’s Safe Hand Challenge, Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar always shows care and affection towards his fans. The former Indian cricketer uploaded a video on his Twitter handle describing why it is important to wash hands during the pandemic of coronavirus. Clad in navy blue sweatshirt and pair of jeans, Sachin also showed how to wash hands to stay clean and hygienic.
He captioned the video, “हम सभी कोरोना वायरस (COVID-19) की वजह से चिंतित है। इस वायरस को फैलने से रोकने के लिए जो एक आसान सी चीज़ हम कर सकते है वो है अपने हाथों को स्वच्छ रखना। हाथों को 20 सेकंड तक साबुन के साथ धोना अनिवार्य है। हमेशा अपने हाथों को अच्छे से धोएं।#SafeHandsChallenge @UNICEF @WHO” which roughly translates to “we all are concerned because of coronavirus (COVID-19). To stop this virus from spreading we can do simple things like washing our hands. It is important to wash hands for 20-minutes. Always wash your hands nicely. #SafeHandsChallenge @UNICEF @WHO”
PV Sindhu
Being one of the most influential celebrities, Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu was also nominated to take up the #SafeHandChallenge and spread the words about precautionary measures against novel coronavirus. Taking up the challenge, she uploaded a 27-seconds-long video, wherein she can be seen washing hands.

Most recent to join the list of celebrities taking up Safe Hand Challenge is actress-turned-politician MP Nusrat Jahan. She too joined the initiative to educate people about the importance of maintaining hygiene during the current pandemic. While most celebs earned praises of people for their bit, Nusrat was criticised for wasting water as she was washing hands while keeping the tap open.
