Three women from West-Bengal, Mahua Mitra, Mimi Chakraborty, and Nusrat Jahan, all first-time parliamentarians from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress are dominating the political consciousness of India. While Moitra is being lauded for her fiery speech, taking down the central government, Mimi has proven detractors wrong by winning against seasoned political activists from an important constituency in Bengal while the third, Nusrat Jahan has turned out to be the poster-girl for an 'all inclusive' India.
The newly elected Trinamool lawmaker and actor Nusrat Jahan, who has made headlines by her strong stand on religion and inclusiveness, has been invited as a special guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Kolkata ISKCON Rathyatra on Thursday.
ISKCON spokesperson Radharaman Das has thanked Nusrat Jahan for accepting the invitation, adding that the actor represented an "all inclusive India" and was "really showing the road forward".
The 48th edition of the Rathayatra organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) since 1971, will be inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Jahan, who had missed her oath-taking as she wed her Kolkata-based partner Nikhil Jain in Turkey on June 19, the day of her ceremony, was heavily trolled for sporting sindoor (vermilion), bindi, a mangalsutra, mehandi, traditional bangles worn by newly-wed when she finally did take the oath. The actress, however, took a stand and said she represents an "inclusive India... which is beyond the barriers of caste, creed, and religion."
Interestingly, a section of Deoband-based clerics has reportedly issued a 'fatwa' against Trinamool Congress Nusrat Jahan for sporting what is traditionally looked at as a 'Hindu' attire.
However, the firebrand actress and politician dismissed it in an interaction with a news agency where she said, "... I still remain a Muslim... And none should comment on what I choose to wear... Faith is beyond attire."
Faith it seems played a big role in another actresses' life recently. 18-year-old National Award Winning actress Zaira Wasim, took to social media recently to pen a note announcing her "dissociation" from the field of acting, stating that it threatened her relationship with Allah and her faith in general.

Zaira Wasim announced that she has quit Bollywood, saying the workings of the industry "damaged my peace, imaan and my relationship with Allah."
Two modern women with vastly differing outlooks in life took a commendable stand each, based on their beliefs in life. While Zaira Wasim felt that her career is taking her away from the path of the Lord, Nusrat Jahan, has on her part, has taken regressive social norms head-on in stating that humanity remains far above petty social dictums and that what a person wears does not identify him/ or her as much as the person’s actions.
