Brahmāstra Release: Twitter Praises Actors, Gives Film Mixed Reviews

After several Bollywood films fell flat at the box-office with the boycott trend on social media and other reasons, both Bollywood and fans have high hopes for Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva.

The much-awaited and much-talked about Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva has finally released and Twitter is abuzz with mixed reactions and reviews. The film released on September 9, 2022, and had an early premiere at select theatres.

While many netizens and fans have lauded the film, some found Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva disappointing and some continue with the calls for boycott that began a long time before the film’s release.

While some criticised Mukerji for the inconsistent storyline and screenplay, most applauded the lead duo as well as Mouni Roy’s performances, especially Roya as an antagonist. There are several who went gaga over Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo in the film.

While trade analyst Taran Adarsh gave Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva only two stars and gave it a verdict of “disappointing”, film critic and trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal called it a good film and gave it a 3.5 stars. Jaiswal wrote, “With Excellent 1st Half, Below Average 2nd Half (Initial 30 mins) fabulous ending and great VFX, Visuals, Bgm BRAHAMASTRA is much much better than many recent released film, Enjoyable because of STORY & PERFORMANCE.#BrahmastraReview. (sic)”

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva is touted to be one of Bollywood's costliest films with a budget of ₹400 crores. But, everyone looked forward to the film’s release because of the boycott trend that affected several Bollywood films to an unexpected level in the last few months. Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva has been facing boycott on social media for several reasons. From nepotism in the industry to old videos of Kapoor allegedly disrespecting women, claiming to enjoy eating beef, and making an insensitive joke about Bhatt’s pregnancy, the film and the actors have been facing boycotts for all kinds of reasons.

However, a couple of days ahead of the film’s release, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva had beaten two of the biggest box-office hits of 2022, RRR and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. While RRR had 2.19 crore tickets sold in advance and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 had 2.15 crore tickets sold in advance, Brahmastra had 2.30 crore tickets booked in advance as of Sunday night with four days left for its release. The advance of the upcoming film stood at 5 crore nett plus on Sunday night, even on a limited release. Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva is one of the most expensive films made in Bollywood to date, with a star cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy, among others in pivotal roles. The film is a fantasy adventure serving as the first in the Brahmastra trilogy as part of its own cinematic universe titled Astraverse.
