Amidst continuous calls for a boycott on social media, the Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva has beaten two of the biggest box-office hits of 2022, RRR and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, even before its release. The film is scheduled to release on September 9, 2022.
As per Box Office India, the upcoming film has beaten the advance bookings of the aforementioned films in around two and half days flat at PVR theatres. However, the other places are yet to catch up due to the limited number of openings for advance bookings. The PVR chain has most of its screens open early on Fridays and has advance booking for Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva going strong. RRR and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 had seen advance booking at all screens.
While RRR had 2.19 crore tickets sold in advance and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 had 2.15 crore tickets sold in advance, Brahmastra has 2.30 crore tickets booked in advance as of Sunday night with four days left for its release. The advance of the upcoming film stood at 5 crore nett plus on Sunday night, even on a limited release.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva is one of the most expensive films made in Bollywood to date with a star cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy, among others in pivotal roles. The film has an estimated budget of ₹410 crore. The film is a fantasy adventure serving as the first in the Brahmastra trilogy as part of its own cinematic universe titled Astraverse. It is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Namit Malhotra, and Mukerji himself making this his production debut, under the banner of Dharma Productions, Starlight Pictures, and Prime Focus in association with Star Studios, along with Kapoor and Marijke DeSouza.
Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva has been facing boycott on social media for several reasons. The trend has affected the box office performance of several Bollywood films to an unexpected extent in the past few months. From nepotism in the industry to old videos of Kapoor allegedly disrespecting women, enjoying eating beef, and making an insensitive joke about Bhatt’s pregnancy, the film and the actors have been facing boycott for all kinds of reasons.
