Bengaluru Fridge Case: 29-Year-Old Woman's Chopped Body Found In Refrigerator, Chilling Details Emerge

A 29-year-old woman was found murdered in Vyalikaval in Bengaluru, with her body dismembered into close to 50 pieces and stored in a refrigerator. The nation is shocked to see this again as this is similar to the Shraddha Walkar murder case that happened in 2022. This again, leads to serious concerns about safety and crime in India. The body is identified as Mahalakshmi from Nelamangala. The murder was discovered when a neighbour reported a bad smell coming from a locked house to the police, prompting a police investigation that uncovered the horrifying details surrounding her death.

Bengaluru Fridge Murder Case: How It Happened

On September 21, 2024, people living in Bengaluru's Malleshwaram area noticed a foul smell coming from a nearby house and soon they contacted the police. When the police arrived and investigated, they got the contact number of the victim's family from the homeowner. When the family arrived and opened the door, they were horrified to find body parts cut into several pieces stored in the refrigerator, according to a police officer.

“The police and FSL team analysing the scene of the crime recovered Mahalakshmi’s mobile phone, which, according to the police, was switched off on September 2. Going by the decomposed body parts and the electronic evidence gathered from the scene of the crime, it is suspected that she was murdered and her body parts chopped in the house before they were stuffed in the fridge”, as per a report by the Hindu.

The victim was identified as 29-year-old Mahalakshmi, who was from Nelamangala. She had been working in a mall and had been living in a rented house for the past five months. Mahalakshmi was originally from Nepal and had been married to Hemanth Das for five years. They have a four-year-old child together. According to the police, the couple had problems, so she left him and moved to Bengaluru to live alone.

According to a report by India Today, Hemanth Das claimed that his wife, Mahalakshmi, was in a relationship with Ashraf, a man from Uttarakhand who worked at a salon in Nelamangala. Hemanth also said that he had been banned from entering Bengaluru after Ashraf filed a complaint against him.

Hemanth, who last saw Mahalakshmi about a month ago when she visited his shop to see their daughter, told the media that they had been married for six years but had separated nine months earlier due to marital problems. He also mentioned that Mahalakshmi had filed a police complaint against him after an argument.

Further Development In Case

Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parmeshwar shared that authorities have identified a suspect, who is said to be in West Bengal, in connection with the murder of a woman from Bengaluru. He said that, “The police have collected a lot of information, a lot of clues. There is information about a person from West Bengal being a suspect. Efforts are on to arrest him.”
At a press conference on September 23, 2024, the city police commissioner B Dayanand said that, "It is being investigated from all angles. The prime suspect has been identified and efforts are underway to arrest him. He's an outsider. We can't give more information as of now as it may help the accused.”
