Apple has introduced the iPhone 16e, a new addition to its iPhone 16 series, designed to offer an affordable yet feature-rich option for budget-conscious consumers. This launch follows Apple’s recent decision to quietly remove the iPhone SE from its official store, hinting at the possible end of its budget-friendly SE lineup. Rather than releasing the anticipated iPhone SE 4, Apple has chosen to expand the iPhone 16 series with the 16e, a more accessible model aimed at a broader audience.

The iPhone 16e starts at $599 (approximately ₹49,500) in the US for the base model with 128GB of storage. In India, the device is priced at ₹59,900, making it a more affordable alternative to the standard iPhone 16, which starts at ₹79,900. This ₹20,000 price difference makes the 16e an attractive option for those looking to experience Apple’s latest technology without stretching their budget.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 16e will open on February 21, 2025, with deliveries beginning on February 28, 2025. For those needing more storage, the 256GB variant is priced at ₹69,900, while the 512GB version costs ₹89,900.
The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch OLED display, delivering vibrant colours and deep blacks for an immersive viewing experience. The display also integrates the Face ID system, ensuring secure and seamless facial recognition. Apple has replaced the traditional mute switch with a customisable Action button, allowing users to quickly access features like the camera or Do Not Disturb mode. Additionally, the iPhone 16e now includes a USB-C port, marking a shift from the Lightning port used in previous models.
The iPhone 16e is powered by Apple’s latest A18 chip, which boasts a 6-core CPU that’s up to 80% faster than the A13 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 11. The device also features a 4-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, designed to handle machine-learning tasks with remarkable efficiency. Apple claims the Neural Engine can process AI models six times faster than the A13 chip, significantly enhancing the device’s performance.
