Every Bengali should have finished their pujo shopping by now (unless your last-minute chaotic spree is still on) since Durga Pujo is just around the corner. Food has always played a significant role in the celebrations during these few days. The greatest part of the festival is that there are no restrictions or rigid guidelines regarding food consumption for these six days. Plenty of choices are available, ranging from sweet to spicy, vegetarian to non-vegetarian, and authentic to fusion. However, here are some of the traditional Bengali meals one must try during Durga Pujo:-
1. Bhoger Khichuri
An exceptional and unique moong dal khichdi recipe called bhoger khichuri (along with a few vegetarian side dishes) is made during the celebrations like Durga Pujo, Laxmi Pujo, Saraswati Pujo, etc., and served as prasad. 2. Luchi With Aloor Dum/Cholar Dal
Get your day going with this delicious combination. The ideal accompaniment to luchi, the white, fluffy counterpart to what we call "poori" in Hindi, is aloor dum, which is made with baby potatoes, ginger-garlic paste, onion, fresh coriander and various spices. But cholar dal (split Bengal gram). Luchi is made using maida and deep-fried in refined oil.
3. Kosha Mangsho
You can have this mouthwatering mutton dish with either luchi or plain white rice or bhaat. This rich mutton curry, made with aromatic spices and loads of love , will undoubtedly improve your dining experience.
4. Bhapa Ilish

Bhapa Ilish, which is essentially steamed hilsa fish, is a favourite preparation for Bengalis as they are the biggest fans of the body fish often prepared in mustard paste. In this recipe, the mustard marinade is steamed along with the fish in a coconut leaf or metal container, giving the food unique and rich flavours. Steamed white rice is the ideal side dish for this.

5. Kolkata-style Mutton Biryani
Kolkata-style mutton biryani has a unique blend of spices along with desi ghee and a piece of mouth-melting potato. The juicy mutton pieces act like the cherry on top of this light, fragrant style of biryani.

6. Mishti Doi
Mishti Doi is a staple dessert in Bengali culture. This recipe is a perfect amalgamation of yogurt and sugar in balanced proportions. It is a Bengali dessert that combines fermented doi curd—usually made from cow milk—and sugar or jaggery (cane sugar). The process of making mishti doi involves cooking sweetened milk until it's thick and allowing it to ferment.
