Poha or flattened rice is one of the most commonly used ingredients in our Indian kitchens. It is most commonly used to prepare a breakfast dish which also uses ingredients like onions, tomatoes, and peanuts.
If you are bored having the regular poha everyday then here we have some easy snacks that you can prepare at home if you love having poha or flattened rice. Read on.
Poha Sandwich
This one is a great breakfast or evening snack recipe. You can also pack these healthy and tasty sandwiches for lunch.
You Will Need
- 1 Bowl Leftover Poha
- Bread Slices
- Tomato Ketchup
- Homemade Mint Chutney
- Butter As Required
Directions
- Take a slice of bread and apply butter to it. On the other slice, apply a mix of tomato ketchup and mint chutney.
- Place some leftover poha on the bread slice. Spread it evenly.
- On a tawa, spread some butter and place the sandwich on it.
- Flip the side when it is golden and crisp. Repeat with other sandwiches. Enjoy!
Poha Chiwda
Poha chiwda is a quick, easy snack to make at home to enjoy with your evening cup of tea or coffee.
You Will Need
- 2 Cup Poha
- 1/3 Cup Peanuts
- 1/3 Cup Cashew Nuts
- 1/3 Cup Almonds
- 1/2 Cup Chana Dal
- 2 Tbsp Grated Coconut Or Sliced Coconut
- Pinch Of Asafoetida
- Oil For Frying
- Curry Leaves
- 1/4 Tsp Turmeric Powder
- Salt As Per Taste
- 2 Green Chillies
Directions
- In a kadhai, add the poha or flattened rice and roast. Keep stirring gently. Poha will change colour after 2-3 minutes.
- In another kadhai, add some oil and roast peanuts in them till crisp and brown.
- Take out the peanuts and then roast chana dal. Transfer to a plate and then fry cashews till crisp.
- In the same kadhai, add some oil, curry leaves, green chillies, and a pinch of asafoetida.
- Sprinkle some turmeric powder and salt into the mix and stir.
- In a big bowl, first, add the roasted poha. Add the fried nuts and dal. Next, add the tempering and mix well.
- You can have it hot or let it after it cools down. You can store this poha chiwda in an air-tight container for a few days.
Poha Pakoras
On days you feel like having a crispy snack (easy snack options) in the evening, these healthy and delicious pakoras can be a good option.
You Will Need
- 2 Cups Flattened Rice Or Poha
- 1/2 Cup Mashed Potatoes
- 1 Tsp Chilli Powder
- 1/2 Tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1/2 Tsp Lemon Juice
- 1 Tsp Chopped Green Chillies
- 1 Tsp Coriander Leaves
- Salt as Per Taste
- Oil For Frying

- Wash poha in a sieve. Let the poha dry.
- In a bowl, add washed poha, mashed potatoes.
- Sprinkle all the spices and mix well.
- Knead a dough.
- Take out small, ball-sized portions from the dough and keep them aside.
- In a kadhai, add some oil and heat.
- Drop in the poha pakoras and fry till golden brown.
- Transfer to an oil absorbent paper.
- Serve hot with mint chutney or tomato ketchup.
