Due to the coronavirus outbreak, we are all tucked inside our homes. While some of us are binge-watching our favourite shows, others are busy playing games with their kids all day. One thing is common here, munching! All these days we have started to binge on more food and can't just do without some snacks.
However, when we talk of snacks, we can't get them from the market or prepare fancy ones at home as they require a lot of ingredients that may not be available during this time. So, here we have some interesting and easy snack recipes that can be prepared using potatoes. Potatoes are a staple in Indian kitchens and versatile! You can turn them into a variety of lip-smacking snacks. Wait no more, let's quickly dig into some easy to make and delicious potato snack recipes.
1. Potato Pancakes With Sautéd Spinach And Cheese Sauce
No better way to beat hunger pangs than enjoying some crispy and delicious potato pancakes. Chef Nishant Choubey shared this easy to make and interesting potato recipe with us.
You need:
- 500 gm Potato
- 300 gm Spinach
- Nutmeg a pinch
- 40 gm Cheddar cheese or any melting cheese
- 20 gm Refined flour
- 20 gm Chopped coriander
- 20 gm Chopped onion
- 1 tsp Chopped garlic
- 30 gm Cooking cream
- 1 tsp Chili flakes
- 1 tsp Oregano herb
- 40 ml Olive oil
- 10 gm Butter
Directions:
- Wash and grate the potatoes. Squeeze out as much water as possible from the grated potato mixture.
- In a pan, saute chopped onion, garlic, oregano, and chili flakes and add in potato.
- Transfer to a bowl and add refined flour for binding and sprinkle grated nutmeg powder. Season with salt and pepper.
- Make the cheese sauce by cooking cheese and cream together.
- Take a nonstick pan and add oil and heat it up.
- Spread the potato mixture and cook it both the sides till it becomes crisp.
- Add butter in between as it helps to enhance the taste.
- In the meanwhile blanch spinach in hot water and sautéd with garlic, olive oil and a bit of butter.
- Top the crisp potato pancake with cheese sauce and sautéd spinach. Enjoy!
2. Aloo 65
Aloo 65 is a crispy snack that can be enjoyed anytime! It is named Aloo 65 as the preparation is quite similar to the popular Chicken 65 recipe. Here is how you can make it at home:
You need:
- 4 to 5 medium-sized potatoes
- 3 tablespoons whole wheat flour or refined flour
- 3 tablespoons cornflour
- Handful of curry leaves, chopped
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- ½ teaspoon coriander powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper powder
- ½ teaspoon garam masala powder
- 2 to 3 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- water as required
- Salt as per taste
- oil for frying
- Coriander or mint leaves for garnish
Directions:
Partly boil the potatoes in a pressure cooker. In a bowl, add all the other ingredients, water, flour, spices and mix well to make a batter. Peel the potatoes and dice. Dip the diced potatoes in the mix and fry in hot oil till they turn golden and crispy. Garnish with coriander or mint leaves and enjoy with tomato ketchup.
3. Garlic Smashed Potatoes
Garlic and potatoes are a delicious combo! Use these two ingredients to prepare a crispy snack!
You need:
- 1/2 kg Potatoes
- Salt as per taste
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp thyme leaves/coriander leaves
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup cheese
Directions:
Boil potatoes until tender and let it cool. Divide potato into two halves and toss with melted butter, minced garlic and thyme. Using a glass, press down the potatoes to make them flat. Sprinkle salt and pepper. Grate cheese on potatoes. Bake till the outer layer of potatoes starts to turn crisp. Preheat oven to 425 degrees and cook for around 25 minutes.
4. Potato Pops
Kids in the house would love to enjoy this delicious snack as they play around.
You need:
- 3 Potatoes
- 1/2 tsp Pepper powder
- 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1/2 tsp Oregano
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 2 Eggs
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 cup grated Cheese
- 1/2 cup Maida or refined flour
- 1/2 cup Bread crumbs
- Oil to cook
Directions:
- Bake potatoes in an oven and then remove the skin. Grate potatoes and keep aside.
- In a bowl, add grated potato, pepper, oregano, chilli powder, salt, butter, cheese, and egg. Mix well.
- Transfer to a plate and spread evenly. Refrigerate it overnight.
- Cut into cubes and dip in a beaten egg mix.
- On a plate, spread bread crumbs and roll the potato cube on it.
- Heat oil and deep fry potato pops.
5. Tandoori Potato Wedges
Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, these buttery potato wedges are the perfect starter dish.
You need:
- 400 grams Potato
- 4 teaspoon Hung Curd
- 1/4 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Coriander Powder
- 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Chaat Masala Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Garam masala powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper powder
- 1 tablespoon Oil
- 1 teaspoon Kasuri Methi
- Salt to taste
- Coriander Leaves, chopped
Directions:
- Wash, peel and chop the potatoes into wedges.
- In a bowl, add hung curd and all spices. Mix well.
- Marinate potato wedges in the mixture for 30 minutes.
- Grease the baking tray and place potato wedges evenly.
- Bake at 200 degrees Celcius for 40 to 45 minutes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves.
6. Potato Papad
This is one crunchy snack everyone would loving bingeing on.
You need:
- 500 gram Potatoes
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- Chilli powder
- Oil to grease
Directions:
- Boil potatoes, peel them and mash.
- In a bowl, add mashed potatoes, oil, salt and chilli powder. Mix well and then knead a dough.
- Take small portions of this dough to roll thin potato papad.
- Place on a tray and dry in the sun. If you don't want to do that, fry them in hot oil and your homemade aloo papad are ready!
7. Dahi Aloo Chaat
Craving some lip-smacking street style chaat? Prepare this delicious chaat using potatoes!
You need:
- 3 potatoes
- 1 cup dahi or curd
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp jeera powder
- 1/4 tsp black salt
- 2 tbsp imly chutney
- 2 tbsp green chutney
- Pinch of sugar
Directions:
- Boil potatoes and chop them into small cubes.
- In a bowl, add curd and whisk well.
- Add salt, sugar and black salt to the curd and mix well.
- Next add chopped potatoes to the curd and keep aside for 15 minutes.
- Take a serving bowl and add curd and potato mix. Top with some chilli powder, cumin powder, green chutney, and imli chutney. Serve chilled@
8. Aloo Tikka
Tandoori snacks taste so delicious but now when you can't order from your favourite restaurant, why not prepare something at home? This aloo tikka recipe will give you the same tandoori flavour at home.
You need:
- 25O gm potatoes
- 1/4 cup hung curd
- 1 1/4 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp chat masala
- 1/4 tsp kasuri methi
- 1 1/2 tbsp besan
- 1 tsp oil
- Salt as per taste
Directions:
- Boil potatoes and cut them into big cubes. Prick them with a fork.
- In a bowl, add all the other ingredients to make a paste.
- Marinade your potatoes in the mix for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Stick potato cubes on the skewers and place them on a grill pan or oven. If using the oven, preheat at 240 c for 20 minutes.
- Brush potatoes with some butter and enjoy!
9. Pan Fried Potatoes
Few ingredients, simple recipe and your pan-fried potatoes are ready!
You need:
- Potatoes
- Butter
- Olive oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Directions:
- If you have baby potatoes, use those or cut regular potatoes into small cubes.
- In a pan, add butter and olive oil. Add potatoes to the pan and make sure you coat them in the mixture.
- Sprinkle salt and pepper.
- Keep flipping potatoes and cook for 20 to 30 minutes till they turn brown and crispy.
- Check salt and add if required. Serve.
10. Aloo Poha Cutlet
Give a healthy twist to your potato snack by adding poha. This one again is an easy recipe and tastes delicious!
You need:
- 2 cups Poha
- 3 Boiled potatoes
- 1/4 cup Paneer
- 1/4 cup Carrot
- 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon Chaat Masala Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
- 1 inch chopped Ginger
- 2 chopped Green Chilli
- 1 teaspoon Lemon juice
- 2 teaspoon All-Purpose Flour
- 2 sprig Coriander (Dhania) Leaves
- Bread crumbs for coating
- Oil for frying
- Salt to taste
Directions:
- In a bowl, soak poha in water for 10 minutes or till it turns soft.
- Meanwhile, mash boiled potatoes.
- In a bowl, add potatoes, soaked poha, grated paneer, grated carrot and sprinkle all the spices.
- Also, add ginger and coriander leaves. Squeeze some lemon juice. Mix all ingredients well.
- Take a small portion of the mixture and give it any shape.
- In a bowl, add maida and water. Add salt and pepper to it and mix well.
- Coat your cutlets in this maida mix.
- You can deep fry these cutlets or shallow fry them on a non-stick pan.
11. Schezwan Chilli Potatoes
If you are someone who likes spicy food then this Indo-Chinese spicy snack is perfect for you!
You need:
- 3 Potatoes
- 3 tbsp Cornflour
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Oil for shallow frying
For Schezwan Gravy
- 1 slit Green chillies
- 3 tsp (chopped) Garlic
- 1½ tsp (chopped) Ginger
- ½ cup (finely chopped) Onion
- 2 tbsp Schezwan Sauce
- 2 Red Chillies
- 2 tsp Soya Sauce
- 4-6 tbsp Water
- ½ tsp Vinegar
- 1 tbsp (mixed in 2 tbsp water) Cornflour
- Salt to taste
- Black Pepper to taste
- 1 tsp sugar
- Oil for frying
Directions:
Cut potatoes into cubes or wedges and soak them in cold water. Next half cook them. Drain. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and cornflour on the potatoes and mix well. In a pan, fry potatoes till golden and crisp. In a pan, add oil, onions, green chilli, ginger, and garlic. Next, add red chillies and stir fry. Add soya sauce, schezwan sauce, vinegar, salt, sugar, and pepper. Add water and stir well. Now add cornflour and water mix and let the mixture thicken. Time to add fried potatoes to the sauce and mix well. Top with coriander leaves or spring onions.
12. Garlic Herb Roasted Potatoes
Here is another delicious potato recipe that requires a few ingredients and tastes amazing!
You need:
- 1/2 kg Potatoes
- Melted butter
- Oregano
- Black pepper
- Salt
- 2 tbsp minced garlic
- Vegetable stock
Directions:
- Wash potatoes and cut into halves. You can use baby potatoes too. Spread melted butter, oregano, pepper and salt. Mix well. Microwave for 30 seconds.
- In a pan, add garlic, butter, and potatoes. Roast each side till gets coated with butter and garlic mix. Add vegetable stock on the mix and let it cook. Enjoy!
13. Quick Potato Nachos
These will taste quite like your regular nachos but with potatoes! Top with your favourite toppings and boom! A plate of delicious nachos is ready.
You need:
- 2 potatoes
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cumin powder
- 2 tsp lime juice
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 green chilli
- 2 tbsp grated cheese
- Olives, taco seasoning, black beans (optional)
Directions:
- Clean potatoes and cut into thin slices or wedges. In a bowl, add potatoes, sprinkle garlic powder, cumin and mix well.
- On a baking tray, spread potato nachos and bake for 20-30 minutes till they turn golden brown and crispy.
- When potatoes are done, spread cheese and bake again till the cheese melts.
- Take out and top with onions, tomatoes, squeeze lime juice, sprinkle chilli powder, cumin, green chilli and enjoy!
14. Potato Patties
Everyone at home would love to enjoy these delicious and crisp potato patties!
You need:
- 2 cup mashed potatoes
- 1 egg
- 1 onion
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup cheese (grated)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
Directions:
In a bowl, add mashed potatoes, beat one egg and add to it. Mix well. Next add chopped onion to it. Add flour, cheese, salt and pepper as per taste. On a nonstick pan, add oil and butter. Pour the potato mixture on the pan to make small patties. Cook both sides till golden. Serve with ketchup.
15. Potato Corn Balls
This one is the perfect snack to enjoy while the entire family sits down for some fun games. Easy to make, this crispy snack is loved by all!
You need:
- 1 potato
- 1 cup corn
- 1/2 cup cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander leaves/basil
- 4 teaspoon all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
- 1 cup of vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- Salt as required
Directions:
Boil potato and corns. In a bowl, mash both potato and corns with a fork. Add grated cheese to it along with salt, black pepper, garlic paste. Add basil/coriander leaves to it. Sprinkle oregano and mix again. Now that the dough is ready, make small balls of the mixture and keep aside. Fry them in oil till golden brown. Soak excess oil by placing on a tissue paper and serve!

16. Potato Chivda
Running out of munchies at home? Prepare this crunchy potato chivda at home with this easy recipe.
You need:
- 3 Potatoes
- 1/4 cup Peanuts
- Handful of cashew nuts
- Handful of almonds
- Dry coconut
- 1 tbsp raisins
- 1 tbsp fennel seeds or saunf
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
- Curry leaves
- Salt as per taste
- Oil for frying
Directions:
Wash potatoes and peel them. Keep these potatoes in ice water for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, add some oil to the pan and fry peanuts and dry fruits. If you have dry coconut, fry them too. Add curry leaves. Fry and keep all these ingredients aside. Grate potatoes and drain water. Place these grated potatoes on a dry cloth and let them dry. Heat oil and fry grated potatoes till crisp.
In a bowl, add fried grated potatoes and all other ingredients. Sprinkle all the masalas, mix and enjoy!
17. Chilli Garlic Aloo Bites
Nothing like munching on some crisp snacks in the evening with your cup of tea or coffee. This one is an easy to make a snack and tastes amazing!
You need:
- 4-5 Boiled Potatoes
- 1 tsp Chilli flakes
- 1 tsp Garlic paste
- 2 tbsp Cornflour
- Chopped coriander leaves
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Directions:
Boil potatoes and grate them. Keep aside. In a bowl, add cornflour, chilli flakes, garlic paste, salt as per taste, coriander leaves. Mix well and then add grated potatoes to the bowl. Make small cubes using the mixture and deep fry them. Sprinkle some chat masala and enjoy!
18. Potato Cheese Momos
Miss having your favourite momos? Make them at home using potatoes.
You need:
- 1/2 kg All-purpose flour (maida)
- 1 kg Potato
- 2-3 Garlic
- 1/2 kg Onion
- Butter
- Cooking Oil
- Salt as per taste
- Water as required
Directions:
In a bowl, add maida and water and knead the dough. Boil potatoes and keep aside. Chop onions, garlic. In a bowl, add potatoes, butter, onions, and garlic. You can add any other veggies to the mix too if you have them available at your home. Take a portion from the dough and roll a thin sheet. Using a glass or bowl, cut round shapes. Fill the dough with potato mix and fold to make a momo. You can give it any shape you like. Take a steamer and place all the potato momos. Steam for 15-20 minutes and cook on medium flame. Serve with spicy chutney or ketchup!
19. Aloo Chana Chat
Prepare a bowl of healthy chat snack with potatoes and chana. This one is a vegan and gluten free option!
You need:
- 2 cups cooked chickpeas (chana or chole)
- 2 potatoes
- 1 onion
- 1 tomato
- 2 to 3 tablespoon coriander leaves
- Sev as required
- Green chutney
- Sweet chutney
- Red chili chutney
- Chaat masala
- Roasted cumin powder
- Salt as per taste
- Lemon juice
Directions:
Pressure cook chana with enough water and some salt. Boil potatoes and keep aside. In a big bowl, add boiled chana and potatoes. Cut potatoes into small cubes. Add chutney, you can make green chutney at home using coriander and mint. Add chilli sauce and imli chutney. Sprinkle salt, chaat masala and cumin powder. Top with some sev and coriander leaves.
20. Potato Chips In Microwave
Nothing like bingeing on some crispy potato chips while watching your favourite movie! Prepare these crunchy potato chips at home in a microwave.
You need:
- 1 potato
- Salt or seasoning of your choice
- Olive oil
Directions:
Cut and peel the potato and start slicing them into thin chips. Wash these slices in cold water. Using a dry cloth, dry these potato slices. Season potato slices with salt, pepper or seasoning of your choice. Place in a plate, brush with some olive oil and place in micorwave for 3 minutes. You can check your chips in between if they have turned crisp and golden. Enjoy!
21. Creamy Potato Salad
Here is another satisfying potato snack, it is creamy and tasty!
You need:
- 1 kg Potatoes
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/3 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup onion
- 3 eggs
- 2 1/3 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 1/3 cup celery or coriander
- water as required
Directions:
Boil potatoes and eggs. Peel potatoes and cut into cubes. Chop eggs, onion into small pieces. In a bowl, add mayonnaise, vinegar, salt and pepper. Add potatoes, onion, coriander or celery and eggs. Mix again and enjoy your bowl of creamy salad!
