The popularity of Korean food has increased tremendously in recent years, mostly because of K-dramas and K-pop. Foods like ramen, kimchi, bibimbap, and others have become increasingly popular. And one of them is Gochujang noodles which are prepared with a hot paste that is made from red chilli peppers and also has some vegetables.

A few months back Netflix released a video on YouTube where Janhvi Kapoor said, “During the lockdown, I saw a bunch of cooking videos and travel shows. So I saw a recipe for really quick noodles. You basically just take Gochujang with a bit of cream and lots of cheese. And you have like, yum garlicky noodles.” And since then, these spicy Korean noodles are becoming more popular in India.

A key element of the noodle sauce that gives it heat and a great savoury flavour is gochujang paste. The spicy gochujang noodles are an easy and quick dish to prepare. It is a perfect food to have with your partner and binge-watch your favourite show. So here is an easy recipe for you that you can try at home this weekend:

Ingredients of Gochujang Noodles

1 packet of instant ramen noodles

1 tbsp gochujang paste (red chilli paste)

1 tsp gochugaru (pepper powder)

1 tbsp vinegar

3-4 tsp chopped garlic

2 tbsp chopped spring onions

1 tsp sesame seeds

1 tbsp lime juice

1 tbsp sesame oil

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp butter

salt as per taste

How To Make Gochujang Noodles

1. In a boiling pot some water and cook the noodles till it turns soft. Drain and set aside, reserving some of the noodle water.

2. Add the spring onions, sesame seeds, gochugaru, gochujang paste, and garlic in a bowl and mix it well.

3. Now heat the sesame oil, then drizzle it over the garlic-chilli mixture when it is hot. After a few minutes of sizzling, stir in the butter, vinegar, soy sauce, lime juice, brown sugar, and gochujang paste.

4. You could even add 1-2 tsp of your favourite hot sauce to elevate the spicy flavour.

5. Add the noodles and a small amount of water. Then add extra spring onions as a garnish and toss until well mixed. You can even serve it with a half-boiled or poached egg.
