Yakgwa is a classic deep-fried honey cookie that is prepared with honey, rice wine, sesame oil, and ginger juice. Yakgwa consists of two syllables, ‘yak’ which means ‘medicine’, and ‘gwa’ which means ‘confection’, so it means ‘medicinal confection’.

Yakgwa is a fried cookie coated in honey-ginger syrup. It is one of the most popular and traditional Korean sweets. These sweets come in the form of flowers or squares or diamond-shaped pieces. These are usually taken as snacks. Recently we even saw it in ‘Jinny's Kitchen’ starring Lee Seo-jin, Park Seo-joon, Choi Woo-shik, Kim Tae-hyung (BTS’s V), and Jung Yu-mi.
