When the movie ‘Khalnayak’ came out in which the song was originally used, it was even banned despite being loved by the audience. Here is how the song that once got banned has now had a massive success over time.

Banned In 1993

The movie ‘Khalnayak’ was released in 1993 and with it, came the song 'Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai,' however, the song was banned on Doordarshan and All India Radio because of the controversies around its ‘double-meaning’ lyrics despite being a hit with 1 crore+ cassettes sold in just one week of its release. The song was even the reason behind the film not winning the National Award as it was extremely controversial at the time, according to reports.

Success With A Remix

The remix version of the song by Diljit Dosanjh was recently used in the film ‘Crew’ and the song has once again won the hearts of many and offended some. The audience has always been split between the groovy tune of the song and the double-meaning lyrics which are often seen as objectification of women. However, after the original song came out and the controversies started budding, the lyricist Anand Bakshi came forward in defence of the song. He shared that the lyrics of the song were inspired by a Rajasthani folk song and denied the idea that the song was even remotely vulgar.
