Karthi’s much-delayed fantasy action comedy ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’ has finally arrived in theatres on January 14, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festivities. Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, the film has opened to largely positive early reactions on social media, with many viewers calling it a fairly engaging entertainer powered by Karthi’s performance and an intriguing fantasy turn.

The film stars Krithi Shetty as the female lead, alongside a strong supporting cast featuring Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anandaraj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran, GM Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, Nivas Adithan, and P.L Thenappan.

Vaa Vaathiyaar Delays, Legal Issues and Box Office Competition

‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’s journey to the big screen has not been smooth. The film faced multiple postponements following legal and financial hurdles. Earlier, the Madras High Court had stayed its release over unpaid dues amounting to Rs 21 crore, leading to repeated delays before finally clearing its Pongal release.

At the box office, the film faces stiff competition from Prabhas ‘The Raja Saab’, Chiranjeevi and Nayanthara’s ‘Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu’, and Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Parasakthi’. While ‘Parasakthi’ has reportedly struggled to sustain audience interest, the other two films are performing well. However, the postponement of Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ may work in ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’s favour.
