The fan favourite ‘Top Gun 3’ is officially in the works now. Tom Cruise himself put an end to months of rumours and speculations regarding the highly anticipated sequel to the action-thriller film and confirmed that it is in active development. During the promotional tour of his film ‘Mission: Impossible’ in Australia, the actor confirmed that he will be returning with the most-asked sequel to the blockbuster ‘Top Gun: Maverick
Tom Cruise Confirms ‘Top Gun 3’
The confirmation of Top Gun 3 came from Cruise himself during a film promotional tour in Australia. A reporter asked him, “Can I ask you about Top Gun 3? Is that something that’s on the horizon?”
Cruise didn’t try to dodge or divert the question, instead, gave a direct, clear answer, which made fans rejoice. “Yes, we’re talking and thinking about many different stories, and analysing what we can do and what’s possible,” the actor revealed. “It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick. But all these things we’re working on, we’re discussing them: Days of Thunder, Top Gun: Maverick. And there are many other films we’re actively working on,” he said.
Although, the speculations for the sequel were in the air right after Top Gun: Maverick’s release in 2022, however, there were no confirmations by the stars. Now Cruise’s announcement adds real weight to these rumours.
The ‘American Made’ actor also gave clear expectations about the film’s release timings. The production is still in the early stages due to the actor's packed schedule.

“There are numerous other films that we’re actively working on right now. I’m always shooting a film, prepping a film, posting a film. I just finished a film with Alejandro Iñárritu too, who did The Revenant, and we’ll be coming out with that. That was an extraordinary experience and [Christopher McQuarrie] and I are always working on several different films,” said Cruise.
Top Gun 3: Cast And Plot
While the production is still in its infancy, Cruise, Miles Teller, and Glen Powell are likely to reprise their roles as Maverick, Rooster, and Hangman. Fans might also see Jennifer Connelly and possibly Val Kilmer return, with the latter potentially making a brief appearance.
The story of Top Gun: Maverick revolves around Maverick (Cruise) who battles his past while training a group of elite TOPGUN graduates to prepare them for a high-profile mission.
