After a rather dull April, Hollywood is gearing up for its May premieres, and the slate is a pretty interesting mix. Comprising films of varied genres, the list of upcoming releases has something for everyone. Of course, not all will be exciting and appealing, but the following five will get votes from every fan and movie buff. Here's more.
5 Exciting Hollywood Films Releasing in May 2025
In April, we saw films like A Minecraft Movie, Freaky Tales, A Nice Indian Boy, The Amateur, and Sinners, among many others, hitting the cinema halls and OTT platforms. While some grabbed the spot, others couldn't. However, that's not stopping us from hoping that May will be interesting that way. In that light, the following five films have our excitement touching the sky:
1) Thunderbolts* (May 2, 2025)
The second release from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2025, Thunderbolts* has an ensemble cast comprising names like Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, among others. In this superhero film, a team of antiheroes get caught in a fatal trap and are forced to work together on a dangerous mission.
2) Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (May 23, 2025)
Tom Cruise's swan song as IMF agent Ethan Hunt is THE most-awaited film of the year, let alone May. And the extraordinary hype is justified. That's because it's one of the most expensive films made to date, has some breathtaking action sequences, and is part of one of the Hollywood money-spinner series. And, of course, Cruise's last act as the operative makes it so much more special.

3) Lilo & Stitch (May 23, 2025)
A live-action animated remake of Disney's animated film Lilo & Stitch (2002), the upcoming movie will engage in a box office fight with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, but both are expected to do well if viewers like the content. That's because they will attract a distinct range of moviegoers, but we will have to see who emerges as the winner.
4) The Phoenician Scheme (May 30, 2025)
Directed by Wes Anderson, The Phoenician Scheme is an espionage black comedy film. Starring Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Imad Mardnli, and Benedict Cumberbatch, the flick will be about a family and their business. Given Anderson's knack for unique storytelling, we can surely expect The Phoenician Scheme to bowl us over like every one of his films.
5) Karate Kid: Legends (May 30, 2025)
Jackie Chan is back as Mr. Han, and Ralph Macchio is back as Daniel LaRusso for Karate Kid: Legends. The martial arts drama will clash directly with The Phoenician Scheme at the box office, but since they belong to different genres, chances are both films will perform well if fans love them. Set three years after the events of the TV series Cobra Kai (2018–2025), Karate Kid: Legends comes 15 years post The Karate Kid.
