Animal To Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar: Movies In 2023 That Reeked Of Misogyny

Many parts of the Indian subcontinent are known for their crime against women. From rape cases to murders, India is one of those countries which are not safe for women to live in. However, this is not a moral that always existed in the culture of this ancient country. Until the Vedic era, before any foreign interruption, women were treated equal to men.

It is quite hard to believe this given the situation currently. Amid this already terrible situation, some movies are being released that support these causes and glorify misogyny. These movies romanticise the exploitation of women and toxic masculinity.

While these movies have been a part of the industry for years, here are some fresh entries from 2023 that reel of misogyny.

‘Animal’

Do you remember the movie that got tied in the threads of controversies ‘Kabir Singh’? The Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna starrer ‘Animal’ is just an advanced version of the film. The story revolves around a gangster who walks the path of darkness after being neglected by his father as a child.

In the name of being “alpha,” he cheats on his wife, mistreats her and acts possessive which, in his eyes, is being very much in love.

‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’

Even though it doesn't seem like one on the surface, ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’ has a misogynistic angle attached to it. The plot of the movie has unveiled sexism attached to it in terms of villainising the female character. Shraddha Kapoor’s character, just like Nushratt Bharuccha’s character in 'Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety', is the vamp in the story.

It is shown that Shraddha Kapoor’s character is trying to separate Ranbir Kapoor’s character from his family, even though no proper bond has been shown between them.

‘Shehzada’

The movie that was released at the beginning of this year, ‘Shehzada’ stars Kartik Aryan and Kriti Sanon. The movie features a lot of misogynistic acts by the character. He has been shown as the alpha male and romanticising putting women down with this toxic masculinity.
