This year’s edition of the Jagran Film Festival (JFF) has captivated cinema lovers. Movie enthusiasts from across the country participated and expressed interest in the films showcased during the event. The festival is hosting 5,000 national and international films from 110 countries, including short films, animation films, and 500 feature films, each lasting around two and a half hours. The festival will be held over three months in 18 cities across the country, concluding in March 2025. It has become a major attraction for film lovers, filmmakers, and directors alike.
The Jagran Film Festival is being hailed as a milestone for short films. It provides a platform for low-budget short and feature films. One of the standout films is the French short On the Bridge, which is just four minutes long. The film has captured the hearts of audiences with its dialogue-free presentation and exceptional acting. Additionally, Dhara Ka Tem, a regional film from Haryana, tells the vibrant story of a domestic woman.
The Iranian film Chai, a thriller, keeps the audience engaged until the very end with its strong screenplay. It is an example of an impressive presentation without relying on grand sets or musical performances. Other captivating films featured in the festival include Investigator, Bengal 1947, We Are Fahim and Karun (a Hindi-Kashmiri film), and the Assamese film Village Rockstar.
The animated films Appu: Elephant Life Matter and the German film Fall from the Grace stand out for their simplicity and sensitivity. These films are likely to be remembered for their emotional impact. The festival encourages young people to pursue filmmaking and provides a vast platform for them to showcase their work.
Unlike other expensive film festivals, Jagran Film Festival brings cinema to rural and remote areas of the country. By communicating in Hindi, the festival offers the audience a more intimate experience, moving away from the glitzy world of Bollywood.
The festival has also provided significant encouragement to female filmmakers and directors, resulting in a notable increase in their participation. With its unique features and diversity, the Jagran Film Festival has become a powerful example of Indian cinema.
