‘Tumko Dekha Toh Yeh Khayal Aaya’

Did you know that this famous song was written in just nine minutes? In an old interview, music composer Javed Akhtar shared that the lyrics of the song were penned down at 2.00 am after a few drinks. It took less than 10 minutes to complete the song. The song is from ‘Saath Saath’ from 1982.

‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’

‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’ is among the major hits of Asha Bhosle. While the singer was preparing for her ‘Farewell Tour’, she revealed in an interview that she became the character of Rekha during recording sessions of this song starring Rekha. The actor played a courtesan in ‘Umrao Jaan’ in 1981.

‘Aankh Seedhi Lagi’

This is an iconic Hindi song, both in terms of picturisation and lyrics. But if you knew its story, you will fall in love with the song, if at all it was possible. The song is from ‘Half Ticket’ (1962), and it was sung by Kishore Kumar. The twist here is that the singer gave his voice to the female and male voices. Lata Mangeshkar was supposed to be the female voice, but due to some reason, she could not make it to the recording session, and Kishore Kumar had an epiphany to sing in male and female voices.

‘Sar Jo Tera Chakraye’

I am not sure about you, but this song reminds me of my childhood. My Nana (maternal grandfather) used to sing this song when he used to oil my hair during my summer and winter vacations when I used to visit him. While he is not around anymore, the song reminds me of him and our sweet time spent.

The story of this song is heartwarming because it has a connection with popular singer R D Burman’s childhood. Inspired by his tunes, his father, Sachin Dev Burman, created the song ‘Sar Jo Tera Chakraye’. Mohammad Rafi sang this song for ‘Pyaasa’ (1957).

His brief for the song revolved around a romance between a couple in the tulip fields of Holland. We are sure that the music composer must have had many difficulties in creating a song, but looks like it was all worth it.

‘Lag Jaa Gale’

‘Lag Jaa Gale’ is a beautiful song from ‘Woh Kaun Thi’ (1964). It has been recreated by many singers but the original version rules our hearts. You would not imagine, but this was not in the film, and director Raj Khosla had rejected it. However, music director Madan Mohan asked actor Manoj Kumar to again speak to Khosla about it. When he heard the song for the second time, he loved it. When he was asked about it later, Khosla said that his mind was somewhere else the first time he listened to the song.
