Produced by none other than Bollywood's perfectionist, Aamir Khan, 'Happy Patel' promises to be a laughter-filled extravaganza. Adding to the excitement, actor-comedian Vir Das is set to make his directorial debut with this quirky comedy. Imran Khan and Vir Das previously shared the screen in 'Delhi Belly', also produced by Aamir Khan, which was a massive hit among audiences.

Commenting on the project, an insider revealed to Peeping Moon, "Imran has officially sealed his comeback venture, almost eight months after he hinted at the prospect of reentering the film industry last year. He is set to portray the titular character, Happy Patel, in a quirky comedy produced by Aamir Khan Productions. The movie promises to be a rib-tickling affair, set in a setting that is both familiar and refreshingly new, reminiscent of Imran's past projects. Filming has already commenced in Goa."

Previously, there were speculations that the actor known for his role in 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu' was slated to mark his return with a spy series on Disney+ Hotstar. In this series, he was expected to portray the character of an intelligence officer.

The film was reportedly under the direction of Abbas Tyrewala. Nonetheless, it was shelved following Jio Cinema's acquisition of Hotstar in 2023. During a discussion with Film Companion, Imran remarked, "All things said and done, I am kind of glad that ended up not coming together. I don't want to play a character who solves problems with a gun."
