The Academy Awards has officially released the shortlist for the 97th Oscars, showcasing a diverse lineup of films from around the world. Among the highlights is ‘Santosh’, a Hindifilm that has earned a spot in the Best International Feature Film category. However, ‘Laapataa Ladies’, which was also submitted as a contender, did not make it to the final shortlist.

Oscars 2025: Santosh Shortlisted for Oscars

Co-produced by the United Kingdom, ‘Santosh’ is one of 15 films competing for a nomination from a pool of 85 global submissions.

Directed by Sandhya Suri, ‘Santosh’ premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024 and has received positive reviews. The film tells the story of a young Hindu widow, portrayed by Shahana Goswami, who inherits her deceased husband's role as a police constable and becomes involved in investigating the murder of a Dalit girl amidst institutional corruption.

As per the Academy Awards press release, the voting for the nominations will take place from January 8 to January 12, 2025. The final nominations for the 97th Academy Awards will be announced on January 17, 2025. The grand event itself will take place on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and it will be televised live on ABC, with streaming options available on Hulu.
