Dressed as Aunt Gladys from the film ‘Weapons’, he fully embraced the scene-stealing villain role that earlier won Amy Madigan her Best Supporting Actress trophy. It was an absurd sketch that had absolutely no right to work as well as it did, yet Conan managed to have the entire theatre roaring

A genuine shock hit the ceremony when presenters announced a tie in the Live Action Short Film category between ‘Two People Exchanging Saliva’ and ‘The Singers’. However, the real story is the resulting chaos. When the team behind ‘Two People’ finally stepped up to the microphone, the producers apparently decided they had overrun their time. The crew physically retracted the mic right in the middle of their speech. It stands out as either a massive technical blunder or the cheekiest play-off move in Oscars history.

To drum up excitement for the upcoming ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ sequel hitting cinemas on May 1, 2026, Anne Hathaway brought Vogue editor Anna Wintour on stage to present the awards for costume design, makeup, and hairstyling. Wintour famously inspired Meryl Streep's terrifying fashion editor character, and she leaned right into the joke, flatly calling Hathaway ‘Emily’ just as Streep did in the original 2006 film.

Fifteen years after ‘Bridesmaids’ hit the big screen, Rose Byrne, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, and Ellie Kemper shared the stage to present the best original score and sound awards. The brilliant reunion carried extra weight for Byrne, who attended the Sunday ceremony as a Best Actress nominee.

Conan O’Brien managed to engineer the night's best meme at Leonardo DiCaprio’s expense. As cameras cut to the ‘One Battle After Another’ nominee, a caption appeared beneath his face reading: ‘TFW [that feeling when] you didn’t agree to this.’ DiCaprio played along perfectly, flashing a genuinely bewildered look that instantly cemented his status as the internet's favourite meme template.

Jessie Buckley swept the major awards circuit this year, and she finished her run by taking home Best Actress for ‘Hamnet’. Her victory makes her the first Irish actress to win the award. Given her previous wins at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and SAG Awards, her Oscar victory felt like the perfect, inevitable conclusion to a dominant season.

Michael B Jordan finally secured his first Academy Award, winning Best Actor for ‘Sinners’. He faced fierce competition in a stacked category that kept critics guessing until the very end, beating out Timothée Chalamet (‘Marty Supreme’), Ethan Hawke (‘Blue Moon’), and Leonardo DiCaprio (‘One Battle After Another’). Following his recent SAG win and nominations across the BAFTAs and Globes, the momentum tipped firmly in his favour just in time.
