Life is just harder for some than the others. Some people are born with a silver spoon but others have to work hard and earn a livelihood for themselves.

A woman from Jalandhar, Punjab had to face many challenges in life. Neha was married at a young age but soon separated from her husband. It's been 12 years since she decided to live on her own. Apart from this, she had a 3-year-old daughter at that time and she decided to raise the little girl on her own.

She said that many people advised her to stay with her husband for the sake of the child and her well-being even after he left her for another woman. However, she decided to not pay any heed to such advice and chose her happiness and her dignity over an unfaithful & unhappy relationship.

She said to Tribune India that it was a tough decision as being a single parent poses some challenges. She said, “I wanted to be a lawyer since I was in class X, but being born in a poor and rural family, I was forced to get married at the age of 16.”

She further added that “I then thought this was the end of my career and dreams, but to my surprise my husband allowed me to complete my studies. It was in 2006, I completed my +2 and in 2007 my daughter was born. It was when my daughter turned two, I got to know my husband was having an extramarital affair. It was then I decided not to succumb to family pressure and rather choose to live independently.”

She said that “Even though my family or in-laws refused to support me, I had given a good life to my daughter and I will make sure she fulfills all her dreams.”

She worked in a Telecom company for several years. In 2016, she took admission in LLB but due to the corona pandemic, she lost her job and had to quit her degree.

The circumstances lead her to start a roadside paratha stall in order to earn a living and fulfill her daughter's dreams. All the challenges in her life tried to pull her down but she didn’t let anything stop her. She stood up and decided to work hard in order to support herself and her mother.

8 months ago, she started to sell delicious parathas on a table but soon bought a cart. She plans to resume her degree and fight for women’s rights after she becomes a successful lawyer.
