Procrastination is one of the biggest time-management problems people face today. It can lead to stress, low self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy. Procrastination is also referred to as a stress response of the body which causes it to go into freeze mode and makes us constantly delay work. Because we do not want to deal with the stress of doing a certain task we procrastinate. Read on to learn some tips that you can use to stop procrastinating.
#Tip 1
Set specific goals for yourself, and write them down. The most difficult part about breaking the cycle of procrastination is to get up and get ourselves to start doing a certain task. Writing and setting specific goals for yourself, gives you the motivation and boost of energy to start accomplishing a certain task.
#Tip 2
Make a plan of action by listing the tasks that need to be completed, in order of priority. Make a habit of creating a to-do list every day and prioritize your tasks based on urgencies, such as if you have something important due in a couple of days, make sure to include it at the beginning of your daily list.
#Tip 3
Don't start anything until you are ready. Once you are prepared and have laid down the groundwork for action, don’t let yourself get distracted by anything or anyone. Once the groundwork and plan of action are set, it is time to start accomplishing your task.
#Tip 4
Don't be afraid to take on large tasks when they are broken down into smaller pieces. If you are going to be doing something that will take a long time, break it down into smaller tasks so that you can have a sense of accomplishment as you complete each one.
#Tip 5
Create a reward system that will help you overcome temptation. For example, if you finish your work early, allow yourself to watch an hour of television or go out with friends. Once you reach your goal, allow yourself to do whatever activity you want.
#Tip 6
Do not put off starting your work until later because you will most likely end up doing nothing at all. Remember that the sooner you start working on a task, the less time it will take to complete it. Set a timer for yourself and work on your most important task for the first 20 minutes or so. Once you have successfully worked on a task for twenty minutes you will automatically be motivated enough to finish that task.
If you follow these tips, I'm sure that you will stop procrastinating and be more productive!
