What is Spiritual Enlightenment? The world today, talks about being Enlightened and attaining Nirvana or Moksha but little do we understand what these actually mean and how we can attain them. Many people think that all this is just a fairy tale and yet, there are scores who do not even want to ponder on the subject. They question, ‘How does it matter who I am and why I am here?’ For them, the motto of life is, ‘Let us just have fun, till life is done!’ And then, there are a few who pursue the path. But these are a rare few because the majority are prisoners of pleasures, possessions and people. They just live and die. They do not even live. They just exist! They think that life is meant to enjoy the pleasures of this world but they do not realise that these pleasures are consuming them and will be ultimately, making them miserable. Spiritual Enlightenment or Awakening is being Enlightened to the profound Truths of life, death and everything in between. It is knowing the truth of, ‘Who am I? And why am I here on this earth?’ It is realizing the truth about oneself and realizing the truth about God.

Spiritual Enlightenment Liberates: This is How
Karma and Liberation
When one is Spiritually Enlightened, he understands and realizes the Universal Law of Karma. One understands that the Law of Karma applies to every entity in this world and then, even if they experience the external pain of the body, mind and ego, they don’t suffer. Thus, Spiritual Enlightenment liberates one from the pain and suffering and leads them to the ultimate destination of Unification with the Divine.
Pathways to Awakening
Spiritual Enlightenment, a state of Awakening to one’s true nature, often involves the subtle yet transformative interplay between breath, meditation and energy. These elements serve as pathways to deeper Awareness, inner peace and ultimately, union with the Divine or Higher Self.
Conscious Breath Power
Breath is the bridge between the body and mind and is often regarded, in spiritual traditions, as Prana (life force). Breath is the expression of the Soul, the Life Energy within us. Conscious breathing calms the nervous system, reducing mental chatter and ego-driven thoughts. It grounds Awareness in the present moment and opens up various energy channels in the body, allowing spiritual energy to flow freely. Conscious breathing or slow breathing to still the mind also acts as a tool for self-regulation, emotional release and inner stillness. Thus, breathwork practices like Pranayama in Yoga are used to awaken dormant energy and harmonize the mind-body connection.

Meditation and Awareness
Meditation is a practice of inner stillness. Silence and Meditation are the disciplined practices of observing the mind, focusing Awareness and increasing clarity of thoughts. Meditation plays an important role in Spiritual Enlightenment by reducing the Mental Thought Rate and shifting the state of mind to a state of Consciousness. Thus, meditation helps in silencing the ego and habitual thought patterns. Meditation also cultivates witness Consciousness or the ability to observe without identification. It opens up space for insights, intuitive wisdom and transcendental experiences while facilitating non-dual Awareness, a sense that all is interconnected. Different forms of meditation practices like Mindfulness, Transcendental Meditation, Vipassana or Mantra Meditation, suit different seekers but all aim to anchor Consciousness in the present and reveal the truth of being.
Spiritual awakening often involves the activation of subtle energy. Nothing in life can be achieved without the energy, the Divine life force, the Soul or the Atman. This energy purifies the system, dissolves blockages and expands Consciousness and ultimately facilitates the Spiritual Enlightenment and Awakening. Without energy, nothing is possible.
In harmony, the breath, meditation and energy act as sacred tools. The breath calms and connects. Meditation stills and awakens. And energy transforms and elevates one into a higher state of Awareness and Consciousness. Their synergy can guide one beyond the mind, into the core of pure Awareness, mindfulness and Consciousness, where Spiritual Enlightenment can be attained.
