What Is Spiritual Awakening?Signs You Are Experiencing One
Spiritual awakening is the journey of overcoming ignorance and realizing the ultimate truth that we are not the body, mind and ego, but the Soul, a Spark Of Unique Life, a part of the Supreme Immortal Power we call God. It is about being Enlightened with the truth and living with that Enlightenment. It is attained through deep, intense yearning and sincere effort. We need the grace of God and the guidance of a Guru to awaken. It all starts with a quest for the truth driven by two questions seeking the purpose of life — ‘Who am I?’ and ‘Why am I here?’ As we evolve, we find ourselves transcending the body, mind and ego.
We no longer seek material success or wealth. We become free from the triple suffering— the pain of the body, misery of the mind (free from fear, worry, stress, anxiety, regret, shame, guilt) and agony of the ego (free from anger, hate, revenge, jealousy, pride, greed, selfishness). We live with discipline, the desire for God, discrimination, dispassion and as a Divine instrument, ever connected with God. We live with peace and fulfillment, acceptance and surrender. We realize that we are all one, manifestations of God. Therefore, we see God in all, love God in all and serve God in all. Spiritual awakening is about Self-Realization which leads to God-Realization and finally Moksha — liberation from the Karmic cycle of death and rebirth as we become one with the Divine in the moment of death.
There are certain signs that indicate that one is on the right path. A prerequisite for spiritual awakening is that one must be a Mumukshu — one who only seeks God and liberation. One must yearn for God more than a miser desires gold, more passionately than a lover yearns for the beloved, and more desperately than a crying child who seeks its mother who is lost.

From a Mumukshu, a seeker becomes a Jiangsu – One who thirsts for the truth. Therefore, the next sign is that one is curious, one seeks knowledge, questions beliefs and spends time with a Guru, an Enlightened spiritual master to overcome ignorance.
Spiritual awakening is about realizing, not acquiring
With sincere seeking, the Jigyasu becomes a Gyani — he moves beyond beliefs to truths by contemplation, often guided by the Guru. Without realization, however, knowledge remains theoretical. If one starts living as a Yogi, in union with the Divine — it is another sign of spiritual awakening. True Yoga is not physical postures or breathing techniques but a life free from desires, lived in Consciousness, not the mind. It indicates that one is not lost in Bhoga, the material world. The Yogi, through deep inner awakening, attains Self-Realization and becomes Buddh — awakened to the truth that we are not the body or mind, but the Soul. The body is formed over nine months in a mother’s womb. We were born when the Soul gave us life in the moment of conception — nine months before our so-called birthday. Thus, we cannot be the body. We cannot be the mind because the mind doesn’t even exist. Has anyone ever seen the mind? It’s an illusion. The ego is then Enlightened to realize the true self.
The Buddh evolves into Sthitpragya — one who lives with a steady intellect, no longer a slave to the mind. One shows signs of deep discrimination and spiritual clarity. A Sthitpragya becomes a Jivanmukta — liberated while still alive. One lives as the Soul, free from ego and attachment. The Jivanmukta ultimately lives in a state of eternal bliss in truth Consciousness, as a Satchitananda Atman. This is the pinnacle of awakening. Yet, final Moksha, union with the Divine, occurs only upon the death of the body.Few reach this state. But Moksha is the ultimate goal of man.
